Front works really well in all conditions I've encountered. Except deep sand running 25psi with full camping gear and 4 gallons of gas...damhik

If you guys happen to come across any good deals, please let me know and thanks in advance.

may be a dumb question but is a stage 1 hotcam different than a stock cam? I had a stage 1 in my last xr and it was fast as all hell, but I don't know if any of that was due to the cam alone.

then I just need to get the suspension dialed in and some conditioning and I'll be ready.
If you are doing it solo really focus on the conditioning. I ran it with no spares, no support crew, stock suspension, stock engine internals, and no real exercise for the previous decade. My conditioning was really all that held me back (and I still did ok).

Make sure you've got the footpeg fix sorted. Lots of high-speed g-outs and stuff.

Most importantly, don't stress too much and have lots of fun

In your searches, use "damper" - dampener is something that gets stuff soggy and dampner isn't a word to my knowledge. Of course folks mix them up enough maybe best to search for all three for good measure

Aha, damper. My xr is kind of like a "dampener" because everytime I ride it my pants get soggy.

Yes, conditioning is key. I iron mann'd the SS300 last year and finished very well on my XR. Then I raced the V2R with a team on my 450x (which is currently for sale in the flea market), and ended up separating my shoulder. We missed podium by 8 minutes, about the time I was wandering around looking for my bike after the crash. This year I'm running the V2R on my XR with another guy. I'm sure I don't "need" the cam or suspension enhanced, but I probably will anyway.

The goal is to finish this year in one piece. I'll be training hard but riding like I've got some GD sense. Patience and Discipline is the name of the game in these types of races.

Does anyone know if XR400 wheels will mount up to the BRP?

The XR400 front wheel bolts right up, the rear is different - not sure how different though. An XR650L front should also bolt up IF you have the XR650L brake rotor to go with it.

I think the cam would actually be handy for V2R to make passing on the lake beds and roads easier. Better suspension certainly never hurts either. I got 5th overall iron man, but lost about an hour due to a crash - was running in front before that.

I'm sure you know more than me about this - but be sure to have plenty of pre-oiled filters ready go go. They can plug up pretty quick and power drops off noticeably when they do. I think I changed mine 2 or 3 times and, if I'd had a pit crew and more filters I'd have changed it probably twice as often. Bike perked up noticeably after each change.

I ran 15/48 gearing with my internally stock motor and it felt like it pulled to the limiter, or at least past the power peak, with that. If I were to do it again I think a cam and maybe high comp piston + 15/47 would be nice for a few extra mph of top speed - that way you can pass in the smooth stuff where its easy. As it was for me it seemed like I topped out almost exactly where everyone else did. I never wanted for more acceleration, but being out of shape and soloing it, I couldn't have held on anyway

Would think twice about installing any Hotcam. At least do some research before you buy. They're made of VERY cheap materials and have caused a lot of problems. Had a Stage 2 Hotcam in my bike and it ran great, but I went back to stock. Just not worth the doubts I had about it. Would like to get a similar cam, but you know, better.

On race-dezert.com a few people got so fed-up with the damping vs/ dampening arguments that they started using some pretty ridiculous variations. Dampenening, damperators, etc. Still find it mildly amusing.

well I'll go with "steering dampenization" then.

About hotcams, never heard anything bad about them. Ran a stage 1 or 2 in my last xr and it ran fine, it will be the last thing I do if I do it at all. I need to get other things sorted first. Then it's just how much money is still in the bucket.

What the heck. This bike is for sale again already.

Sorry, tried to post this on the original thread but it wouldn't let me.

Dieselcruiserhead sold this on 5/2/11. Is this a scam or is the new owner selling it again already?

He is for real. He is from Utardia and has decide to drink the orange Kool-aid. He wanted something more suitable for single-track. He spent a ton of time getting the BRP to this stage.

Compared to what? I love my 6-fiddy, but it's not my first choice for riding tight trails...

A damper dampens and I'm not sure dampener is a word or if any of them belong on a motorsickle.
