Excellent ride!

Excellent report! Thanks for the great information and entertainment.

(Tough to sit here and read it in the Wisconsin winter. Making me stir-crazy.)

Great Report Frank, really, I sit here and relive what I got to ride and friggen am sick over what I missed because of one single tip over. damn the bad luck.

O the old 1975 DT400 Mountain Bike will surely return to Battle Mountain and finish the Western TAT.

Thanks again for sharing mate.

Hey Dockingpilot,

This is one helluva RR man!! I've been thinking about doing this ride along with some buddies but now I know I want to do it!! I was a little wobbly about taking my '08 KTM450 EXCR because of oil capacity issues but now that i've seen your RR and a couple of other RRs featuring the same bike, my fears are pretty much gone!

Still, I'd like to ask DK a few questions about his 530, like how far did he ride between oil changes, and how much oil did he cary with him on the ride? I did a search here for "DK" and didn't come up with his handle, so if you can point me in his direction I would be grateful. DK, if you see this maybe you can answer or PM me.

Again, great ride and looking forward to the rest of it

Really enjoying your ride report and great job on the videos. It brings back some great memories. I finished the ride around the time you started. Makes me want to go do it again.

I bent my front wheel real bad, not too long after leaving Ft Bidwell, around the Oregon border. There was a sharp edged drainage ditch. Luckily the tire didn't go flat but I had to replace the wheel when I got home.

Looking forward to your Oregon report. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

Thanks for taking the time to share your adventure.

Might check with rufus. He rode his 525 on the ride with me and had no problems. I only remember him changing oil once but it may have been two times in the 2500 miles we rode.

Nevada

Frank, great video...I was waiting for the "ambush" in the canyon, like in the cowboy movies!

Question: during those long stretches in Nevada, did you or your butt ever wish you had your 950?

Bruce, during the technical sections (10%?) did you ever wish you had a 520? And was the radiator JB weld the only SE problem during the trip?

A vicarious joy! Thanks!

I changed oil in Moab. Did a quickie, rear drain plug only and refill at Baker, and changed it again at McDermitt. We started at the OK/NM border. Approximately 700 miles between changes.
