I'm ok with there being two Cottrell Roads, and think LTR means left onto trail (correct?), but confess to being stumped by SSR (straight something?).

that is correct but if you had made it to .4 you would have figured it out walter. i think there is only 1 cotrell rd that runs east west within the time frame i took to move it

Fail

I tried two Cottrells- one in Millstone and one in Old Bridge. Must be the one in Freehold

May be the one in OB just off Route 9 (but that Cottrell runs N-S); I went in pretty far on a sand road and trail and rode around a bit on a bunch of interconnected farm roads.

Not a total loss though- the riding was fun, and I got to meet the owner deep in clearing some trees; who turned out to be a biker and we had mutual friends/acquaintances. Talked for about 1/2 hour, told him about our rides, invited him along, and so we're solid. So nbd if I have to go back.

I also ran into this guy just inside the farm

sorry to make you ride around all day .if you rode anywhere more than .04 miles without having to make turn descision then you are not on the correct cottrell. the one in millstone is "drive" not "road" but for getting out trying. yes the freehold one starts on asphalt and runs west into the woods
whoever gets the duck... if you decide to come down the hill and go LSR, stay to the right or take the duck and go RST from there.

The odd thing was that I could follow the directions-- sand road and trail included-- where I was.

NBD, I had fun and met a new friend- what more could I ask for in a February ride?

The frozen puddles...

These two puddles stymied me on the way in with the GS and Tourances:

Walked the "directions", but couldn't find the spot. It is a maze of old dump sites. Found plenty of old tires and mattresses!
