Rain pants for tall people
What a dilemma, trying to find a pair of rain pants to fit my 36" inseam, everything I see is about 6" too short. Any of you tall people got any suggestions. I solved the problem last time by sewing extra lengths on the legs of my suit. Worked great for years but it's starting to leak and it's time for replacement.

I've never found any. The only waterproofs I've ever found long enough are my Darien pants, and they are a little pricey and bulky to be called rain pants (but they are great pants).
But now, since I bought the Firstgear Meshtex jacket and pants last season, they have released the Meshtex 2 jacket and HT Air overpants, both now standard with waterproof/windproof liners. Makes this pretty much a 3-season suit in this part of the world. If you happen to need a new pair of summer riding pants, the HT Air might suit both needs. They come in tall sizes (New Enough has 'em). Now that I have your attention, which Held gloves do you wear, the Galaxy? New Enough is blowing out the Super Jorg at $59. I think I'm going to jump on 'em. Oh, and FYYFTY-AF.

Stobie,
I wear Held Profi Racing #2277 and have for about 6 years. On my second pair. I never find them too hot in summer but I don't ride when it's really hot, go kayaking instead. Thanks for the tips on the suit. Might check that out. FYYFGSARPCFS. |

At 6'4" I found that First Gear pants are long enough. You may need to buy a bigger size then you want.

I'm 6' 6" and am really happy with my Darien pants.

I agree with DirtDog, that the Darien pants are great. They are long to begin with and you can have the people at Aerostitch make them longer if you wish. They are expensive and more bulky than typical rain-gear, but I wear mine all the time and simply dispense with carrying extra rain-gear. I noticed that if I wear them over jeans, I'd better have the jeans tucked into my boots or water/crud/road-spray will wick it's way up them under the Darien pants. If you don't like the heavy weight of the regular Dariens, you can try the lite ones. I've not checked them out but would guess they're great stuff as well. Same price as the standard, though, so no $ saved by going that route.

Most anything imported by Intersport Fashion West Inc. (Firstgear, I thought Gericke as well) seems to run long.
I do not think you can find the brand here, but I was just given a pair of Stadler pants, that ran too long for a 6ft buddy, they have a seperate Gore-Tex liner, an insulated liner, and armor pockets. I find this liner set up optimum for multi-use, dirt, street, mixed D/S touring.

Joe Rocket Ballistic 4.0 pants come in talls, and are quite water resistant. I wore them in one heavy but short duration downpour and stayed dry, but they have full length zippers on the sides, so I assume that they will eventually leak there. The zippers do have sort of a rubbery flap deal though, seems to be effective in the short term at least.
Supposed to be JR's version of goretex, but if they breath, I can't tell it. NOT warm weather gear IMO, but at least you can open the zippers a bit from the top to get some venting. I also have a MotoBoss 2 pc. Rainsuit sold by cycle gear that fits OK, I think it is a 2XL. If you are skinny and need a smaller size, they this may not work.

My intention is to stay completely dry while riding all day in rainy conditions. I have a Moto Line rain jacket that I absolutely love and of course the customized rain bibs( that now leak in the seams and I've tried everything to fix them.). I could ride through a gale and never get the least bit damp. I would like to buy another Moto Line jacket like the one I have but they quit making it. Buying MC clothes has always been a pain in the ass for the taller folks.

Rain Pants
For the last two years I've been using Moose monarch pass waterproof riding pants and think they are great, I'm 6' tall with a 32" inseam, so I ordered a 38" waist size which fits over a pair of jeans and still leaves plenty of room in the seat and while riding still cover your ankles. Very waterproof. Got mine thru Dennis Kirk.

I know whatcha mean. When I sit on the bike, the pants leg hem rides up almost to the top of my boots.
I went to the camping/hiking store and bought a pair of GoreTex hiking gaiters. They strap under the boot, velcro in front and elastic just under the knee. Completely rain proof and ez on and off. Roll up and stash in the tank bag.

Don't know what they carry for rain gear, but New Enough has a feature on thier site where they list all the gear IN ONE PLACE that comes in tall sizes, boots larger than US13 etc. Look for the "hard to fit" keyword at the top of thier home page. WONDERFUL feature IMO. Usual disclaimers, I have gotten nothing but supurb service from these folks, and don't hesitate recommending them.

I have a 36" inseam as well. I went for a ride to aerostitch last week (900mi each way) I went to get fitted for a darien jacket and pants. I spent 3 hours trying on different stuff. The 34 long darien pant needs 4-1/4 inches added above the knee to fit properly while sitting on the bike. This will cover the bottom of my jeans by about 1-1/2 inches while sitting on bike. Perfect. They will be at my ankle while seated. Will be long while standing, but thats minor (I hope). Will get them in about 2 weeks. Will keep you posted if interested. IMHO is worth the trip if you are tough to fit. Dino
