Just got home. Thanks again to Tahoeacr and Mrs. Tahoeacr for the hospitality! The food last night was AWESOME! I just wish I could have made the Friday ride! It was great meeting everyone and I appreciate all of you showing this new Californian around!

Eric, how's the beef stew treating you?

Here's a few of my pictures!

On the way to Virginia City!

The three amigos!

Lunch in Virginia City! Great BBQ!

All of us were gearing up for the pass. We hit a bit of hail, but nothing too serious, just a little cool!

I had a real scenic route back to East Bay too! Great weekend!

Jeff & Marilyn, thanks for the great weekend. I had a great time and was really pleased to me you both, and everyone else I met except of course that Lil-zing fella who kept trying to intimidate me with his roosting me and my little Burro!
Fridays ride, the guy on the GS with street tires gets my vote for biggest cojones.

I like this shot, it looks like it was really cold, but was not.

Super Sherpa and Tahoe were just SUPER!

No pics to show since all cameras are busted except for the new one due in the mail any day now. Sorry.

But here's my rendition of a road report.

It all stared with a craigslist ad search for a new 250 (something light that if I had to pic it up about three times in a day, I could). I checked further and further out for 250's and found an ad for a bike in South Tahoe. After an email to Jeff, he was more than happy to help me check it out. Sight unseen and with the suggestions of those who are experienced, including Jeff, I bought it via bank to bank transfer and made a DMV appointment for registration and called insurance. Next thing you know, I'm taking the new (to me) bike out for the first time on Jeff's DS ride on Sat. And oh how much fun I had!
[IMG][/IMG]
The 2003 Kawa Sujper Sherpa turns out to be somewhat of a trials bike and that's ok because it felt great all day long. On the steep stuff, the part that I was pretty sure I was not going to make it, the compression and brakes were good. On the whoops, when I thought I was going to whoop right out of control, the bike handled that too with plenty of suspension to work with. Mind you, I am a put putter- the type that is usually in the back of the group with no time to relax since everyone is leaving just as I arrive (hate that part of being a n00b goob). I didn't drop the new bike all day and had some good challenges. A couple bikes fell around me but the Sherpa managed. On the hwy, it managed 60 miles an hour without any issues of vibration or rev. I dared not go any faster on it, but proabably could get another 5mph out of her. The only thing wrong with it is the front fender is way too close to the tire so if needs to be rasied since a mud slick could stop me cold in my tracks.

On Sat, I stayed close to Joel/H8chains because he had a nice pace going and he had the GPS coordinates to our ride. He was a good road captain, which is not easy with a big group. We all made it to the lookout hill with the great views, the "pony express route" trail with the SUPER views, and several made it to the VC dirt route that passed by mines and other cool stuff. It's amazing, but Joel got us all to lunch spot at Virginia City- a great BBQ joint that Jeff suggested. At this point, I left the group and stuck around VC a little longer shopping for a gold pan (for panning gold- you know, it's the new fishing) and had a light beer at the Bucket of Blood. There, I met two nice dirt dudes from Sparks, NV who had just rode up for the day and had just as much fun as we did. What a great area for riding! I tried to find a good dirt ride back but could not figure out which dirt road to take so I paved it all the way to Lake Topaz for the evening festivities at the casino/hotel with the OMC who had ridden up on a street run the very same Sat. When I got there, OMC happy hour was still happening and a good casino evening was had by all OMC attendees. I won 15 bucks on the penny slots, btw. It was fun to show off the Sherpa that I rode in with. The fellas spent at least an hour telling me all of their modifications suggestions. I just stood there and "a huh"'d them as my cha ching meter went higher and higher. . That bike is fine the way it is for now. A few stickers, a fender modification, and it's good until she needs tires. Then I'll upgrade that tires and tubes. That's it. Well, maybe some cool stickers too.

Sunday, I rode up 89/Markleeville grade to return the Sherpa to Jeff's for safekeeping and pick up my Strom for the ride home. I took some dirt roads to find some good, secret camp spots near the river and I found a nice dirt road at the fishing spot where the 88 and 89 meet. I almost took that Levnthian Mine road but didn't and wish that I did now after reading the reports above. Oh well, next time. The cool thing is that I got to try out the bike on the dirt by myself on easy fire roads. I had a fantastic set of tunes playing on the ipod and the sun was shooting out here and there with big pillows of clouds, mountain flowers and forest all around. It was great! That bike will be perfect for the back of the campervan a summer road trip.

Thanks, Jeff, for helping me out with the bike and for setting up a great weekend. I know you and your lovely wife put a lot of effort into it with scouting for trails , routesheets , and dinner , not to mention all the hot water these guys could get out of your heater tank!~

It was great meeting all of you and hope to see you again on the next ride. Whammo and Gilla, you guys missed out!

Wish I could have made this one, looks like you all had a good time. We'll be heading north to the Mt. Lassen area next week for our family vacation.
