I've named every vehicle I've ever owned:

Orange Bianchi bicycle in college: Babadahs

1995 Ford Thunderbird: Silvia
2002 Saturn SC2: Eleanor
2008 Subaru Impreza: Stella

1993 Kawasaki EX-500: Oliver
2000 Kawasaki Concours: Christine
2012 Kawasaki Concours 14: Ziggy

When I eventually buy a DR650 or a KLR, I'm naming it Rufus.

Mine's currently in the shop for the valve check, plugs, TB sync, tires, rear brake recall and some other maintenance items that I didn't feel like doing myself. Hope to pick it up on Sat.

Want to meet up and ride to Revzilla in Philly? I need to get a new jacket and wanted to check out their new showroom.

Revzilla could work. Helene is going to drive me to Montgomeryville Cycle, planning on getting there at 0900, should be back to Jersey by 1030 or so. My ultimate goal for the day is to hit Fort Mifflin. A friend of mine is doing WW1 re-enactment / living history event, and it's not far from Revzilla.

I live near exit 40 on 295. We could meet and head over from there. LMK.

Of course, this is predicated on nothing going wrong during / after the service to the bike. :)

Any issues in that time? Also, just curious, when you checked the valves, ever have to replace any shims? The impression I get with this motor is that it's so tightly built, it usually rarely needs them unless you're beating on it constantly.
I had a KI-PASS issue early on but I think that it was an assembly issue. Zero issues since. Did the first two valve checks but have skipped the last one that was due - from memory there was only one shim that needed doing on the first go and the shop never mentioned anything about the 2nd. It doesn't get flogged, I do the oils myself every 6,000km. Also look after the air filter myself and that's about it. Just add gas...

Need some input from you C14 guys. I currently have a VFR but I'm looking for something more 2-up worthy for the wife and I. My main question is, are the 2010 and newer models worth the extra money over the 2008/9 models? I can find 2008 C14's on cycletrader for around $7K - $8K with decent miles. A new 2012 leftover is gonna run around $13K. that's a big jump.

I loved riding my Concours when I was solo. However, two-up, it starts to get very top heavy in my opinion... Of course, someone is about to post how perfect it is for two-up riding. As always, YMMV.

As you may have seen, there are used bikes 2010+ out there as well. The price jump from an 08/09 may not be that much more. If you two decide the C14 doesn't work, you would have a new model to turn around.

With the 2010+ one can select ECO mode and stretch the miles per tank a bit if selected early enough.

You might find a used one with some nice accessories/upgrades included.

My Red Stallion

I just bought a brand new 2012 in Arabian Red. I have to admit that at first ride I am in love! It is butter smooth with tons of power and personality. I have just added the Vance and Hines CS One exhaust for that extra throaty note and minus the 30 extra lbs the stock can weighs. Excited about my 12 day trip down the West Coast in June.

I went through the same thing when I got mine. I'm about 6'2" and 325lbs. My wife is 200lbs so we are over the factory recommended weight limit but the bike still handles fine. I bought a 2008 because it was cheaper and I could get one already farkled and stretch my dollar a little more. I find it great for 2up, that's what I bought it for, but we are big people which directly affects handling.

I prefer the gen 1's since I don't care for the nanny electronics that were added post-'10. I have an '08 ABS model, but that is as much electronic assistance as I personally want. I haven't really noticed the heat being an issue, which was the reason KHI redesigned the fairing. Regardless it will be a definite improvement over a VFR if you need room for 2-up. You're not that far from me (I'm in New Bern); feel free to look at my '08 if it helps you decide. It will likely also be for sale in the next month or so. Gratuitous pictures cuz I like how it looks:

My '09 was quite warm, though you will surely get different feedback on that. I'd go for a '10 and newer. Just my take.
