New KTM 700 with 75 HP!!!

Hy guys,
here in Italy, in the frot page of the most important Biking magazine in Italy "Motociclismo" there's the presentation of the next generation of the 690 lc4, called 700 with 75 hp!!!
there' s an interview to the engineer who shaped it and they says that shold be due in 2010
what do you guys think? and would they put this engine in the newest model just released the KTM 690 Enduro R?

Bye for now...

If the info is correct, it could be for the rumored 1 cylinder street racer: RC4
it would also be nice for a 700 Adventure!!! :-)
The question is if they have only gone for more power at the top (ok for road racing) or also for more grunt (for off road and erveyday use)?
Is it just a bored and stroked LC4 690 engine, or something new?

There's an interview with KTM designer Kiska on the website of motociclismo.it, but I don't see him mentioning the LC4 700. Frankly, I don't see it happening right now in this market.

Big car companies are struggling and going down and KTM as producer of luxury items and toys (for a big part of the market) is being hit hard: at first by the weak dollar and now by the financial and following economic crisis. They already announced last year that they'll consolidate their model range and Milano was proof:

Bold new graphics and a parts-bin SM-Touring.

Exactly what you'd expect. Solid model improvements without big, expensive and dangerous leaps. Think about how long the 640 was here; they'll use the 690 for everything (including an ADV, sooner or later) before they build something new. I can't see a supermono (RC4) happening either now. Great concept, but it never worked for another manufacturer ever (Yamaha SZR660 and the Duc Supermono that never even made it into production).

IMHO.

That's a modified 690 Duke, bored out, new exhaust (see pic), and exercise to see how much power they can get from the new LC4 before it goes to vapor.

RC4 is definitely a back-burner project, and the 700 Rally (690 Adventure) is a front burner project. We'll see more after the Chilean "Dakar".

It's a normal Duke III 690, with the full titanium exhaust system from the SM690. It sems there's nothing new from KTM, here...

Kinda making news up, when there's really not much to write home about.

Rumor has it that Coma & Depres got the 700cc engines swapped in on the rest day at the SA Dakar race this year.

Lol...they MUST be making a 700cc LC4 because I'm going to test ride a 690e and possibly put a deposit down on a 690R today, so that I can make my own damn ADV model! It would be par for the course for me to have KTM drop a 700ADV on the market quickly after I buy a 690R.

I feel sort of the same way. I just spent about $2000 converting my 640 LC4 into an Adventure model and I'm not finished yet. Lack of a large tank for the 690 made me stick with my 640. Apparently someone has announced they are going to make a large tank for the 690. Oh yeah - Aqualine. Actually, despite having just spent the money on upgrading my 640 I still would rather KTM release a 690 Adventure asap.

FWIW,

the 640 LC4 factory SM race machines were in the 75hp neighborhood. And someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall Scuderia West had a ~80hp LC4 SM(C/R?) awhile back.

If the 690 LC4, bored out to 700, makes 75hp in street trim (what the mag cover suggests to me... ) then that IS news, since the production 640 made around 60 eh? The thing to know would be what the 690 factory racing SM(C/R?) makes.

75 hp comes in real handy on those tight single track woods trails.
