I was gonna mention Huckleberry and the beginner trails,,just right for a loaded KLR,,no shit!(or an unloaded KLR with gripsters or some other none knob tires.

If you wanna trail camp on your bike, load it up and practice with the added weight at Huckleberry. Tent. sleeping bag, all yer gear,,ride it up there and hit the first trail to the right, facing west,,,
but you don't do practice runs,,do you?
I mean,
,just to see,

,cuz that would be an effort with no redemption or reward,,loading up a bike just to go ride a freekin practice trail,,who would do that?

I mean,,what dumbass besides me would try such a thing in anticipation of an off road ride in another state,,,??

I think I better find out what folks mean by "trail" before I go committing my dirt-noob self to riding on one. Right now, my skillset is good for a trail two cows wide, wherein neither cow has it's head higher/lower than it's ass at any time.

I lucked out on the Fort Rock to Pine Mtn. ride, despite not making a 'shakedown' ride. My gear stayed on solid. To be honest though...I didn't haul everything I would need to, since we met up with some buddy's who had the tent/stove/ice chest/lantern...campy stuff in their pickup. I'm about $350 away from having my gear squared away for a long trip on the bike...but I'll get there.

The Huckleberry thing sounds like a great way for me to learn some stuff...if you're offering to lead/coach....and providing we don't try to peg the speedo at ANY point in the trip. I've got Friday's free and I'll buy lunch....you throw out when it'll work for you.

yes!,,

we need to do this!
you'll like it! not fooling.. practice practice practice,, just like skinning a snake,, it gets easier if you done it a few times.
we need to all go spend a fun day on all the trails, like OMB said,,the tags are cheap!,,and , if it ain't closed for fires yet,, it will be soon,,let's go!

You get the weirdest looks from the folks unloading the dirt bikes, and especially from the young kids, when you roll in and start checking all yer tied on camping stuff before a test run! that alone is worth the effort!

ride last week

The family had an event I had to attend last week in San Diego. It was a great reason for a road ride. 2300 miles in four days of riding , 2 down and 2 up.
I tried to stay off all freeways and large highways. Roads to mention are:
Tiller Trail Hwy, Crow Foot Road, Dead Indian Memorial Road, Monument Hill Rd, Eagle Lake Rd, Millford Beckworth Rd, and, of course, Hwy 89 out of Markleeville, which I did at 5 am, trying to beat the heat on 395 (I failed, got roasted). Side ride to Bodie, is worthwhile too. I stayed both nights at a nice hotel in the middle of Markleeville.
J Marklee Toll Station

I woke up early Monday in order to blast through the west side of Tahoe. It was well worth the effort. I was rewarded with and empty road (no bikes, RVs, construction, and cops) all the way around to the 89 exit on the north. The sides of my tires received a good scuffing.

is that too early for a suit wearing, compliance officering, desk jockey or do we need to keep bankers hours for you?

If that's the case, I require a three martini lunch...

Please keep in mind there will be stops for snacks and water and pistols and swimming and oooh shiny.....

oh, and you're out in the woods, on a dirt bike, with friends, let's play!
