I remember the first night on my way there (a different yr.) at 14 degrees, then arrived at Hardy Souls campout,,11 degrees,,(Chip Seal & JimandAnn left the next morning), then 9 or 10 degrees the last night,,fresh slippy snow on the road to Tower Lookout, frost on everything below that a half inch thick!,even inside the tent!,,,but it was good ridin' after about 10 or 11 AM!
Hardy Souls indeed,,been Bjorned again!

Ellen's chili!
won't ride on the gravelly roads,,
won't ride in the rain,,
won't ride with too many people,,
won't camp without facilities,,

won't. won't won't!

but,," I'll ride clear across the state in the blowing snow over a goat track and sleep and shit in a ditch for a bowl of Ellen's chili!"

Those Hardy Souls!

It's a video. cheeze n rice I figured you had those in the big city....What you are seeing is history. The first and only footage of us turning around on the sea wall.

I did order a sand proof camera so eventually there may be more pictures.

well...I rode it

Went 20 east out to Sisters and then took 26 out to Mitchell and stopped at the little rock museum/shop. Talked with 100yr old owner who's got 3 of the largest mining claims in the east side of OR. Bought a small thunder egg that they cut & polished for my rock hound daughter. It was late so I rode 26 out to the Austin Gap cutoff (7) and blasted up & over into Baker. (too many slick corners that stayed shaded all day for my liking on that stretch along with about 7 elk that'd been struck on the road)
I blasted up 84 and took the North Powder cutoff into Union.Got there just before dark. Spent Sat. hanging out with a friend and was back on the bike early Sun for the trip home. I took 84 the whole way and...other than the wind...loved seeing the Gorge. I was hanging right around 80mph for all but the uphill parts. (I gotta get a 685 kit for the KLR!)
Pulled into Brownsville around 4...patted the killer's seat for taking me there and back, went inside and crashed.

proof I went there on 2 wheels before the inevitable..."pics or it didn't happen (that way)"

that's the only acceptable place to do that kind of thing- unless you're on a real dirt bike and you land in soft sand/mud/leaf piles....

Glad you did it. A great adventure for you. Lot more fun than any automobile trip.

that's for sure....
I gotta admit I got a little panicked when I was coming down out of the Blue Mtns. and looked north. The sky was BLACK and I figured I was gonna get hammered with snow as soon as I left Pendleton. Turned out I was able to stay ahead of the storm that was moving SE, as opposed to my 'rapid' Westward travel. The fog across the top of the mountains was...fun.(note to self-do NOT neglect poly-pro on the legs)

Glad I rode it. Saw some cool stuff and had good a visit with my friend.
