Well I talked my way out of going to Portland with the wife and got out for a sweet little ride up fall creek today. No real destination, just figured I'd ride until I found a dirt road that caught my eye. I wound up taking forest service road 1816 of the main fall creek road. Pretty nice packed gravel road, I rode for miles and there was no end in sight, with plenty of t and y intersections to choose your own adventure from.

The pics came from spots 1 and 2, actually if you zoom in on satelite and scroll around, you can see that the road goes for a long fucking ways into never never land. Sweet!

Edit: Oh fuck, yeah I forgot to mention that a huge charter bus came around the corner way the hell out on that dirt road! Scared the chitlins out of my guttyworks I tell ya! I hit the brakes and pulled over and the fucker barely slowed down. Can somebody tell me what a charter bus was doing on a doubletrack road out there?

there was some sort of triathilon (sp) event goin on today.
If you had gone up to the next road (1821) you would have run into me. I went up the 1824 until I got stopped by snow. Then came back down on the 1821. Saw 3 tuner cars flying up the gravel

doin some sort of beer soaked gravel rallye, stereos blasting, pot smoke pouring out of the interior, and pedal to the metal. Glad I didn't meet up with them on a tight turn, they were haulin ass up the 1821.
I made it 8 miles up the 1824 before I hit foot deep snow. 3 weeks ago, we only made it to the 3 mile marker.
Tomorrow, pizza at the fireside at 12:30, then the vintage bike show.

so anyways, I guess will not be riding with you guys tommorow. I will be lighting up the I-5 on the tiger tommorow morning, chewing off the last little nubs on my rear tire (or as triumph riders call them:........ tyres

Just looking at the forest service topos, where I found snow today was right around 3500 feet ( a little higher) so anything below that should be open. We could ride to Lowell, along the north shore road to Westfir, up the #19 to the 1910 or 1912 and head up towards the 1802, which comes down on the Winberry creek side. With Fall creek tavern at the end. Don't know the highest point on the 1802, but we might make it over. Any of the ridges above Hills creek, add a thousand feet, so that's out. Anything very far up the McKenzie is questionable, the base of Wolf Rock is 3500 or thereabouts, so forget the #15 roads too. Might also make it all the way up the 18 to where it meets with the #26 roads, coming back down on the McKenzie side.
I'm open for any suggestions, got a tankful of 'no ethanol' gas today at Jasper store, I'm set!
