I believe the 07' ADV uses the same battery as the SE. I would check what battery is in the bike and then cross refernce it on the site.

Yeah, I have the YTZ14S in there now, I guess I need to actually take the measurements. The web sight lists other models, but not the 990 Adventure.

Well if you have that in there now, the Scorpion will fit too.

I tried to save some money and bought cheap 68 € MGM (MiGM) battery. When it was new the battery tester said it had ~10,8 Ah capacity. Few months it was ok but when temperatures drop below 5 C it could not crank the engine anymore. Got it out and tested again, ~8 Ah. Take it back to store and got a new one and tried it. Same thing, no starts below 5 C. I took it back again and got my money back. Bought stock Yuasa battery from local battery store for 100 € (KTM dealer asks 230 € for same battery) and now it starts perfectly even below 0 C. Battery testar said it had ~18 Ah capacity.

Batteries plus offers two batteries discussed as suitable for the 950 here...

The OEM replacement:
Xtreme Permaseal High Performance AGM Motorcycle, Powersport Battery - XTAZ14S
  • $90 list price locally
  • Voltage: 12 V
  • Chemistry: AGM
  • Capacity: 11 RCM (How do you equate Reserve Capacity Minutes to mAh?*)
  • CCA: 225
  • Size: 6x3.44x4.38
The EastPenn/Braille/X2:
X2 Power Sealed AGM Motorcyle and ATV Battery - X2-9
  • $80 list price locally
  • Chemistry: AGM
  • Capacity: 800 mAh
  • CCA: 120
  • Size: YTX9 Group size, 5.88" x 3.44" x 4.19"

Is the X2-9 really a better option than the 14S replacement? Seems like a much lower CCA spec. Are the other characteristics of this battery so superior that they offset the much lower overall CCA rating?

*From wikipedia...
Reserve capacity minutes (RCM), also referred to as reserve capacity (RC), is a battery's ability to sustain a minimum stated electrical load; it is defined as the time (in minutes) that a lead-acid battery at 80 癋 (27 癈) will continuously deliver 25 amperes before its voltage drops below 10.5 volts.

Ampere-hours (A穐) is the product of the time that a battery can deliver a certain amount of current (in hours) times that current (in amperes), for a particular discharge period. This is one indication of the total amount of charge a battery is able to store and deliver at its rated voltage. This rating is rarely stated for automotive batteries, except in Europe where it is required by law.

30% off sale on Yuasa batteries incld the YTZ14S for the 950/990's
Reg: $213.95 - $64.18(30%) = $149.76 + S/H

Decent deal. Not affiliated with them. Just wanted to let other Adv/SE owners know.

just installed the x2-9 and the bike started fine, the battery was warm as it went directly from inside my house to the bike. Tomorrow i will let it warm up to 25癋 outside and see how the battery likes that. Ordered from batteriesplus.com for about $92 shipped.

is there any need for a spacer within the battery box using the x2-9? because it seems fine to me

also does anyone have any experience running this battery with additional accessories?

We've only see temps to the 40's but so far the Scorpion YTZ14S is still going strong and is showing no drop in volts.

I dunno. I tried the Scorpion and had nothing but trouble with it. It is now on the shelf and I ended up buying another Yuasa.

Thanks for this post, PFB.

My Braille that I bought in March quit holding a charge, of course just before we head to Baja. I ran to Pueblo to Batteries Plus and picked up the XTAZ14S. Much higher CCA. Cold cranking amps is what I need around here.

The 300CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) unit is available on this page,

http://www.ebattonline.com/BATTERIES.html

but be aware that lead times can get long there. Winter likely a good time to order one for you snow-bound folks. If interested, email them to check where they are in a build cycle and lead time.
I think this is the one used by Powercell on his SE..try to ask him...
