Laugh Carbon - Kevlar Help

I bought all stuff needed to make a nice couple of carbon -kevlar protection pads for my tank on the 950.

I've seen it's been done beofre.

How do you glue them ?
Hot silicone would be OK or will they come off at the first crash ?

3 layers are enough ? (that's what I've been told at the carbon shop)

If I place them only on the lower part of the tank as the ones I've seen on this forum will it be OK or should I make bigger ones to cover the higher part as well ?
Anyone that crashed allready ? Barbasma I think you did ? was it OK or would you ask for protection higher up???

YES... MINE ARE 2 LAYERS...

I'VE CRASH MANY TIMES IN THE MUD AND GRAVEL.. BUT NO PROBLEMS WITH KEVLAR PROTECTION... ON THE SIDE FRONT PANEL... JUST LITTLE SUPERFICIAL CUT... THE ACERBIS PLASTIC IS EXPENSIVE BUT REALLY GOOD AND FLEXIBLE.... JUST REPAINT THE TRASPARENT... AND GO...

You can make them so that they don't require any adhesive at all to hold them in place, that way they can be removed when the bike is cleaned.
Just extend the fabric up under the upper fairing and wrap it around the front of the tank so that they hook in place. Also use the two bolts that attach the black plastic OEM guard to help hold your kevlar guards in place.
I still use six layers of fabric on any surface that could come in contact with the ground and three layers at the sharp bends. Personally I would say that if you are going to the trouble of making them, then use six layers.

This is six layers on Woodsrider's bike.

please notice that I took it one step further and chosed to protect the fuel "switches" as well, since I was already there why not ???

Hi folks,

I have a question. How do you do to avoid the carbon-kevlar glued to the tank when you are making the piece? I think that the epoxy resin weld to the tank as well to the carbon-kevlar mat.

If everything goes as it's supposed to, the piece will come off as it has 4 layers of wax underneath.

If.....


I'll let you know in 2 days when I'll (try to) take it off
