F800GS Pannier design considerations.

Hey, Airdoc....
real nice set up. I am trying to decide on crash protection. Your pics show some nice looking bars; looks like they protect the radiator without sticking out too far sideways. Are they Holan?

Looks like he's riding the Hepco-Becker, those were my second choice. Available from F800Depot.com. I ordered the Holan bars from the same website, they just shipped today, so sometime next week I'll finally have the bars I've been waiting ages for...

Another question for AirDoc... what is the soft bag you have on your TT rack? Looks like it fits well. Any user reviews you can share?

+1 on a review for that pacsafe tail safe. Don't know how that escaped my sight the other day.. is that the 40L capac?

Here's what I'm looking for in a bag for an upcoming trip to central/america this spring, don't want a hard case but I'm picky, maybe you can tell me if this is what I want. I want something that can both be locked down while I'm dealing with crossing intl borders and customs so I don't have to worry about pilferers BUT something that I can also easily detach to bring inside hotel rooms with me on a nightly basis that will have my most valuables kept in it...

Those are Touratech bags being sold on the Holan sight.

It might even be that Holan makes the panniers for TT. Before recently, as far as I know, Holan didn't sell much under the Holan name and made quite a few things for other companies... (such as the headlight protector for TT)

Has the nice UPS man dropped off your Happy Trails yet? My Holan bars and headlight protector come tomorrow. I got out last week for a little 5 mile jaunt to Chipotle and back when it was 40 out. I'm thinking Friday if it's warm and dry-ish I'll take 'er out again. Don't drop it!

Hi Griz, you bought the Happy trails right? Are you happy with them? How is the build quality and do you think they would fair well in a "get off?"


BTW, I do think Holan are and have been making stuff for TT but just a guess. If you look at The BMW adventure cases (sold by BMW) you will only see a different rack, v. the the one sold on 800DP. I bet they have agreed to not tout the exact same product due to licensing agreements.

BTW, I do think Holan are and have been making stuff for TT but just a guess. If you look at The BMW adventure cases (sold by BMW) you will only see a different rack, v. the the one sold on 800DP. I bet they have agreed to not tout the exact same product due to licensing agreements.

I haven't received the Happy Trails boxes yet. When I get them installed, I'll post my opinions on them.

As far as Holan making the Touratech stuff, I don't think that's the case. If you go to http://holan.pl/en/index you'll notice that on their web store they stock and sell all sorts of brand names for clothing, luggage, tires, wheels, eletrical, etc etc. They sell the BMW Rallye Pro 2 suit on the Holan web store. I'm positive Holan does not make the BMW Rallye Pro 2 suit.

I wouldn't suggest they make the BMW Rallye stuff or things of that nature, but here's a thread from a Holan distributor announcing Holan launching in the US.
I quote "As an OEM for some of the biggest names in adventure equipment today (such as one that rhymes with Rouratech ) Holan is probably the biggest name you've never heard of. "

I know my headlight guard from Holan is identical to that sold by TT (for a few bucks cheaper).

Holan did make a significant amount of items from Touratech, most items were sold under the Touratech brand name, but if you look at earlier catalogs there are some Holan brand items in there. The terms have since changed a bit and Holan is now marketing direct and is going through the process of setting up importers, distributors, and expanding the product line.

Holan imports Touratech into Poland, and does do a bit of business with BMW as well.


They, to my knowledge, do not and did not make the panniers. They are however knee deep in a new pannier line. It looks pretty bad ass...

Not quite yet. They're still finalizing stuff on their end, and we're a bit behind in the process. Here's what I know for the time being:

• These are going to be constructed for Holan in The Czech Republic. We've been told the construction of these is absolutely first rate - seams for instance will be both welded & riveted prior to being silicon sealed.
• There are going to be two sizes - 40L and 32L - 44x38x24 & 44x38x19 cm respectively.
• Cases will be available in both aluminum and black powdercoated.
• Each case will probably come standard with the canister and holders
• Mounts will be Holan made and will alternatively accept the Touratech Cases
• Inner bags and top mounting bags will also be available

Again, it's not a done deal by any stretch. We're still getting a handle on just integrating the Holan products into our F800 centered world to date. These are next on our agenda though, and I should have more to report after getting a eval case in, and when I 'test' it's impact resilience.
