Visiting Victoria in March - local ideas needed.

Hi Everyone,

My family and I will be in Echuca/Melbourne area for the month of March visiting family and friends.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good shop for a rental ride? I am hoping to bring my gear along and take a day or two out to ride. Also, as I know your area has a lot more off-road racing events then Alberta, Canada, are there any races or rallies a guy could watch?

Anyone in Echuca, Rochester, Bendigo? (That's where we spend most time)

Thanks.

Bjorn

I think you will find most of the rental companies are in Melbourne.

There are a few bike shops in Bendigo, but dont know of any rentals up there.

BMW Southbank in Melbourne, Garners? in Melbourne.

I am sure others may have more info than me.

The World Supers will be awesome, as the weather is usually perfect at that time of year. I highly recommend you get yourself along and spend a weekend there, it's a sensational circuit.
It's sort of a pity you are over Bendigo/Echuca way, as the best riding is in the eastern part of Victoria. It's starting to flatten out around that way somewhat, but some nice tar roads all the same. The Grampians are worth a day ride, as is a walk to the top of the tall mountain there Mt William, great view from the summit (20 min walk). The Great Ocean Road is nice and scenic, if busy sometimes. Mt Gambier just over the border is nice too. Sample some of the South Australian bakeries of you get over the border, they are (on average) the best places to eat.
You are only a hundred miles (as the crow flies) west of some great riding if you are in Bendigo.

All liars!

Echuca burnt down 3 weeks back. Nothing left. And the drought means no water too. Fugedaboudit!!!

Try Mexico or Alaska. Nice this time of year, especially via Texas.

Super bikes would be great but I won't be there in time.

Thanks for the link to Garners Reefton, from there I found Mt. Buller Motorcycle Adventures. I think I will arrange a 2-3 day trip there.

You are right about the terrain GodSilla, is't pretty flat. I might have to satisfied with some qauding around the property. My wife parents have about 80 acres near Echuca. I would really like to make it over to the east side. We'll see. I will have to sort out whether I want muddy trails on a dirt bike or go the dual sport route to the areas you mentioned. Wish I had time for both.

Thanks again.

I was raised in SA (Go the Doggies!) and I still lust after a decent pastie. The eastern states wouldn't know a good one if it jumped down their throats.
Last trip we ate exclusively from bakeries, a nice pastie and Famers Union iced coffee for brekky with a vanilla slice for morning tea - heaven.
When we were at Lake Gairdener for Speedweek the canteen was supplying those godawful balfours efforts until I spoke to the staff, then they sourced them from a bakery in Port Lincoln, and my faith in SA food was restored.
Western Vic does OK too, but you just can't beat a South Aussie bakery in my book.
