Yeah, I find myself spending less time there lately too. The same topics seem to run on a two-week loop.

Need Help!

My 1993 xr600 is having trouble. It starts, usually first kick, and runs but when I am riding and give it a quick full throttle it bogs down? I can slowly go to full throttle without a problem.

It only happens when I hammer on the throttle. Any ideas?

Also, I finally got a temp guage for this bike, what is an okay temp? It seems to run at 190-215 degrees.

thanks

First guess is,

- remove, completely disassemble and then clean all parts and tubes/orifices of the carburetor and the air filter, oh yeah put it back again.
If not joy,
- adjust your float to allow more fuel
If no joy,
- new jet (larger) though most likley not necessary. (altitude dependant)

I had this same problem and this worked for me.

First guess is,

I thought at first it wasn't getting enough fuel quickly. I will tear down carb after looking at the air filter. Come to mention its been a while since I did clean the air filter.

thanks

what size pilot jet (what's your main as well, and what elevation do you ride at?)

Dubuque must be 800-1000 ASL?
*edit* 617 ft...just checked.

Most likely your problem says "Keihin" and "PD8A" on the side. It's not a bad carburetor; it's just not a pumper carb and that throttle-snap bog will always be there with it. Going fat on the pilot can alleviate it somewhat while incurring its own side effects.

A flick of the clutch gives it the pumper effect.

Nice job on your XL.

If you haven't already, you should post this in the XL600 thread.

I don't think its the pilot jet. I change that when I moved to dubuque from colorado. I am going to start with the air filter it has been a while since that has been cleaned.

What temps are you guys running? Is north of 200 degrees too much?

mike just a heads up
make sure if you buy after market bearings.
there HIGH SPEED bearings needed for the crank.
there NOT normal bearings as most others you can replace with on the bike.

i myself back in 2000 tried to find aftermarket with no luck i ended up buying OEM crank bearings. when i was replacing them i also noticed one side was slipping in the cases so i used locktite on the case where the bearing sat in. fixed the problem. (think what caused it was from take off's/dropping the clutch when i raced it)

nothing wrong with Orange i've gone that way.
KTM950SE = 3 x XR6's
KTM640ADV/625SMC rear

parts are cheap & easy to get if you got a friend in USA to shop & post for you (2 week wait via regular USPS or 4 days USPS express "to australia" )
