Also, whats the consensus on aftermarket ignition units for the XR600R? Something like this is what I'm thinking of getting:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

What do you reckon?

Oil cooler is still on my desk in about a dozen pieces, give me an afternoon off and it'll be good to go. I'm a postal delivery rider (Honda CT110) and we're 25% down on staff and its coming up to Christmas... very busy.

Sucks to hear that your bike died, but if you do get one of those ignition units... let us know how it goes. I'd be interested to see if they do what they say they do.

I'm sure the aftermarket coils & caps would be fine. Main thing is the stiff shround on the end so it doesn't contact the hot head. Other than that its a very basic system that shouldn't be hard to go wrong with.

Cheers - boingk

EDIT: Just recieved a response from the eBay seller of those aftermarket CDI units:

Sounds awesome even just as a back up ignition unit...I dont know about the timing advance Im no expert regarding that...

what would advancing the timing do to a stock bike with stock piston, cam and valves?

The coil Ill probably order too...

Cheers

It'd just give you a bit more get up and go. Not an earth shattering difference, but you'll get a bit more midrange and topend, and the bottom end will most likely feel a bit crisper.

Not a night and day difference, but the difference will be there.

Cheers - boingk

EDIT: By the way Christian... nice photos!

Awesome bike what and where did you get that fake exhaust storage area?

VHS winch mfg?

I googled it and still couldn't find it. Also what do you carry in it? Or should I ask?

thanks
