One thing that I'd like to add is that it helps if the cam lobes are facing down while removing the valve cover. It gives you more wiggle room and protects them from getting chipped.

I've got a 96 xr600 with a baja designs light kit. The rear light/signals are shot. I'd like to replace them with LED tail/brake/signal lights. All the LED lights I see fit under the newer style MX fenders. Anyone know of a fender that will work on an XR600 that will allow me to use the new LED set ups?

LED replacement bulbs for your existing signals' sockets should be available without having to look very hard, if you're interested.

I've been shopping. New bits for my XR on the way are:

Arrow exhaust

and a spare set of wheels. Rebuilt with MORAD rims, heavy duty spokes, new disks, new sprockets and a set of road tyres.

Just need them to be delivered.

Out of interest is anyone else running a similar Arrow can on their bike?

Maier (800-336-2437) makes what they call the MX style fender that looks more like a modern style straight fender. The one that fits the XR600R is part # 123051 for white and part# 123052 for red. The red looks like a Maico red but they claim it's '88 honda red. Get the white one.

I just checked out the Maier fender you mentioned and they look good.

Can anyone here post up a pic of what the fender looks like on the mighty XR6?

didn't someone make a black one also? I knowI have seen them, but couldn't find them. was it acirbis?

Rear fender #12305. Black, Fighting Red, Red, White. $59.94...

I installed one on the buddies XR650l. Good fit.

I just installed a Baja Designs DS kit on my '92 XR600R complete with analog speedo. After I put everything together I realized that my bike was dying if I turned a sharp right. I figured out that there was too much force being put on the compression release cable and causing it to open up just enough to kill the bike.

Has any one had this problem, or have an idea of how to fix it. I tried re-routing the cable, but I am still having problems...

Try moving the decompressor lever's perch all the way toward the center of the bike then tracing the cable to see if it's getting pinched somewhere.

I have my decompression adjuster backed out so only the last 1/4" of strock moves the actual decompressor. For a while my knee would hit the lever and stall the bike; reducing the actual decompressor stroke helped avoid flameouts.
