I can see that it's cast, but it doesn't look original to me. Then again, I can't see the rest of it, either. Stock pistons are usually dished. If it's bigger than 97mm, it's definitely not original.

Since that wasn't mentioned, I had assumed we were still talking about XR600s....

Wait, how long was it run without oil flowing?
The oil flows fine. When I got it back in November of 2010 and drained the oil, it had small silver flakes, tiny ones. I got it running and noticed problems, so I rebuilt the top end. I put new oil in and ran it for a while, then had to address another problem. I opened the oil cover to replace the o-ring and oil was held up in the oil filter...section. It had some more silver flakes in it, still small though.

We were talking about the other question regarding this piston:

Its a stock Honda piston for an 83 RFVC XR500R, 92 mm bore. I have four pistons that look just like it. Thankfully two of my pistons are inside running engines without problems.............for the moment

Hopefully going to look at one of these beasties to start my dirt adventure in the next couple of days. I've read a lot, however, this particular bike, a 93 model, has 27k km. How much is to high? The guy claims it is running fine and all other hits are in good condition.

Thanks

jetting at 5000feet and humid?

Hey doods, its been a while so Hi! jajaj

Anybody have some tips for my jetting at this altitude?????????..

We are moving to the mountains up here and its rainforesty, humid and anywhere from 4000 feet to 6000feet .last time I rode the hell out of the bike and managed to have a really nice ride with only a small tipover in some slimy muddy hardpack...did feel a bit low on power in the twisties...but not in the dirt.

but...I smell a lot of gas when at idle mostly, and blip it good...puffs out some smoke of the black kind! and its smelly.

again!

I have a 62 pilot at 2 1/2 turns out(thought about going in half a turn?)

And a 155 main, 3rd clip needle, thing is its not a keihin jet, some jet marked with an AB? should I go stock to 152?

Its first kick starter when cold with full choke, and first kick or so when hot, if it gets really hot and such after singletracking it will puff and die on me, then I use the drill and kick trough ten times, kill switch and full throttle and it will start right up so its pretty decent as is...

Thanks to all...

NEED SOME RIDING BUDDIES DOWN HERE BTW!

stay tuned for the bar opening and invitation to all adv members! yay!

interesting! they say 1 size down on the mainjet for every 2000 feet, so that means I would need a 148-152? maybe I ll just go back to stock 152(which I don't have btw!) bummer

would you leave the 62 pilot in steve? I turned the screw in half a turn...it smells though when idling! jaja pretty bad

cheers and thanks

C,

YEAH IF YOU GET TO PLAYING WITH THE CARB IT CAN'T HURT TO GO DOWN A SIZE ON THE PILOT JET. I will be easier starting and be more responsive at the low end.

if i ever get some time(big wedding on saturday) jajaj I will try to order some jets...is there such a thing as a 150main? starting is easy peasy, cause its rich, its a one kick wonder, thing is it stinks and soots up or blips black...I know Im rich...

anywhoo...

regular post for jets should work...jajaja

BTW my old triple top clamp was bent! Im assuming from the crash...the left side was higher than the righ,t I proved this by replacing it with the one you sent down and guess what? the left leg was higher than the right...that and I took off the brace just to see how it handled...

the tig welding on the exhaust is great except there is still a very very minor leak behind that little bracket stub, apparently its a common fault of the fmf powercore pipes...so I left the frame mount off for now...

dont have time to fiddle around and reweld it either...just want to ride! after the honeymoon of course, or NOT! ajajaja
cheers

Just picked up a '93 XR600R in "ok" shape, got it running just long enough to ride it up/down the block and paid the guy $600 for it. Went to the courthouse today with the title and walked out with a new/clean title and IA plates for it. Very happy. Now begins the tear-down so by spring I have a street legal dirt bike to ride to the OHV parks and back.

Got a Clark tank, a pipe, and some other stuff in the deal too.

Probably going to see me around here asking questions....
