Something I did on my old KTM was to use a 1" hole saw on the foam, from the bottom and remove SOME of the foam. This was done to make the granite KTM seat a little softer. Example: If the foam is 2" thick, use the 1" hole saw to remove 1" of foam nearest to the seat pan side. Drill in and pull out a plug of foam. Do it in a pattern that makes sense for your seat shape. Don't see why this wouldn't allow you to sit a little lower in the seat without having to do any major upholstery work.
I saw this thread/idea on KTM Talk some time ago. I'll see if I can find it and link it.

whats your technique for tight singletrack when you fall down? have you taken some foam off your seat or do you only ride street?

cheers bud
just ride street, used a lowering link but it hits the underside of my rear fork so im gonna take it out when I get to it. Maybe try a koubalink if money is available. I'm 5.6, on sneakers zo boots will make it a bit more..

Tried to find the thread on KTMtalk, but is seems the article is missing (or I'm missing the article). Basically it amounts to removing the foam and cover from the pan and removing plugs of foam from the pan side of the foam. You don't want to go too deep to keep the holes from showing thru the cover. If I were to do it, I would work on the front 1/3 of the seat. If you soften that area, it will compress more and get you a little closer to the ground. If you search KTMtalk, there are a number of articles on shaving the seat foam as well.

I gottcha now...you soften the underside so it compresses a bit when on it...hmmm

I wonder how easy ungluing the foam from a 25 yeard old seat pan is...

well I got options and this should be a "frree" mod

I ride only dirt...with tarnac to connect to...so for me as soon as the trails get tight and uphill I really need to think...as soon as I tipover might as well have a beer and chillout...

I just lowered the spring adjuster and slid the forks up 10mm. Checked sag and it was within 3 mm of being spot on!

Peel back the seat cover, get your electric carving knife, very slowly slice a nice 3/4" piece of foam off the top of the seat, staple the cover back on.

I'm 5'8 1/2" and can now touch the ground.

Otherwise, CRF230L.

I think ill try the drill holes from underneath trick, since I wont be able to tack the cover back on as nice as it its now..

and no, I dont have the cashflow to 'just' buy an other bike.. If I had that I'd have bought a DRZ of 625 way long ago
