Took the pig out for a spin, first time this year my fingers weren't aching when I got back

And wouldn't you know it

Did some lanesplitting past a couple of them, I like how Dutch cops have to let you get away with it

In the time taken for me to decide on everything I need for the rebuild, Christian's already rebuild the top of his XR, Royal has finished and dyno-ed his XR and the Dogger has installed his new 100mm piston.
Alas , no. Hit a snag , AKA broke the bloody 2nd ring. Now waiting on parts coming in from the US&A . Ho Hum . Feel a bit down about it , but I'm determined to sort it out myself.

In other news , I was inspecting the old piston and noticed a hairline crack between the 1st and 2nd rings . Closer inspection revealed another one approx 1/3 of the way round the piston. A quick flick with a thumbnail , and the whole section came out . What would cause this ?

Cheers

same here, replaced my clutch yesterday and when I rode home the other piggy's were behind me. Bla bla licensplate not readable. Politely explained that since its an enduro bike this is the way it was sold first time in the Netherlands and its the factory way to bolt it on bla bla bla..
Seconds later he was asking me questions about the bike how i've fixed it up and how good is looks.. Didnt even say anything about the plate anymore. no warning, no have-it-fixed-next-time-I-see-you, no ticket no nothing!

Other problem arose, XR is leaking oil badly between the clutchcover and oilfiltercover, and a bit from the banjo I think.. Gonna take it apart again after I've had some noms

Oh what a bunch of whiners they are, stock is prefectly legable if you ask me.

I guess you need a new o-ring for your filtercover

So took a break from job applications and polished up the head. Couldn't get rid of these gouges though, not sure what caused it but doesn't seem pleasant.

John
Maybe it swallowed the dreaded stock choke plate flap at some time.

Quick question and I figured this was the place to ask.

I've got an '86 with a seized front brake caliper, so I need to replace with a new one (it's too bunged to just restore).

Are the front brakes the same part for all model years, or did they update the caliper part # in a certain year? I'm fairly certain I could use an 85-87' with no issues, but what about a '91?
