Phx - Fear This Trail!

I had this loop in mind, well, I always have some sort of loop in mind, that would take us across this trail that DOD and I took a stab at a couple of weeks ago. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514726

Javalina (XR650R) got his carb all straightened out and it was doing a much better job of delivering gas to the engine instead of the ground.

Today's ride would start, and hopefully end, at the Lake Pleasant landing strip.

Staging and ready to go.

Riding the vast flood plains of Arizona.

Easy and fast, I wish this were a date.

Boulder Creek. We would follow it for miles, before turning back.

Would you like to see the ruins? No, let's ride more.

The trail turns to crap, and you try to convince yourself that it will get better over the next rise, so you continue on. I'm on a 450, I can do anything.

Javalina's on his 650, egging me to continue on. Don't you know, don't feed the Nightstalker.

ummmm...ooohhhh...errrrrr

This is about as far as DOD and I made it a few weeks ago.

It's going to get better, it's going to get better...

But for who?

Hey man, how about a break?

OK

I didn't expect to find this up here.

How long can this go on?

FOREVER!

Javalina says how much farther? I say 2000 feet, in elevation. After covering 5 miles of this crap, we turned back. I'm sure it would have eased up around the next bend.

On a positive note, I got more pictures going back down.

Luckily, I had an easier way to our destination.

I've been up here twice before, but didn't notice this.

We rode up to check it out.

That's been here for a while for sure.

Climbing to the Milk Ranch.

Corral at the Milk Ranch.

This must be some sort of secret alien landing spot.

Standing on the front porch, you can see where the trail we were on earlier comes in.

We were in search of the Tip Top trail to Crown King.

A little birdie told me to go through the corral.

The birdie was right! I had been up here twice before and couldn't find the trail.

It started out easy enough.

It turned to crap in a hurry.

We'd had enough for today. Retreat!

A few shots going back down the mountain to the donkey ranch split. Lake Pleasant, where the truck is parked, in the distance.

Nightstalker picture.

So, I tell Javalina, there's just this one hill...

I've been down this on my 950. Boy that was one hell of a ride!
