I like the wide open spaces, and seeing the 800 GS getting dirty.
Good pics and write up.

After the col and the small oasis you didn't cross an oued ?

So this day was the first part of our sandy track....
the slightly difficult part. From Erfoud to Remlia through Merzouga.
We talked during the evening with Anton about the sand.
So just in front of the hotel was a little dune.
he couldn't resist so he tried it in the morning.
result : he got stuck. really.

So we went to Merzouga. looked at the dunes.

Christian wished to try with the 800GS. Anton thought his little morning adventure was enough for now. me..... let's say I have to do what I have to do...

the beginning of the track is quite easy. dust, rocks, some bands of sand, little hills like this one. something to wake you up, that's for sure. but still ok.

Then the sand will reclaim his share, more and more.

just a quick note as you probably noticed that Christian added 2 TT "bidons" on the left of the 800GS.
As the bike was new to him, he didn't know (yet) the mileage of the little beast.
Anton, with the AT, was the one with the smallest. Anyway, to be sure, Christian add the 4 liters on the bike.
guess what ?
yes, he used it !
but not in Morocco !
in Barcelona as he didnt want to refill the tank before taking the boat. but as some point, in a middle of a roundabout in Bcn, he stopped.
So we pushed him on the sidewalk and he refilled from one of the little can.
we're still teasing him about it

So Anton, how is it ?

ok.... guy's all business !

there is still some klicks to do !!

ok. and he's gone !

At some point, I stopped.
Why ?
Coz we were ridding a bit in the sand.
all my concentration was needed. last year, I'm was afraid. really. quite unpleasant.
this year, fearless. but it's still difficult to ride on sand.
so I decides to stop and take some shots to have a little "souvenir" of the location

you get the feeling, dont you ?

before Remlia, the long and wide dry lake.
perfect to check your max speed
At the end, the track is continuing a bit uphill. ok.
but it's a sand track. a dune with stones.
interesting....
last year, I was unable to pass it.
this year.... I did it !!!

then Remlia.
Nice place..... for its fech-fech

First, you're wondering where the track is.
Second, you're wondering how deep is this F* stuff!!!
It's sand as thin as dust and it's deep.
I was exhausted. couldnt pass this.
So as last year......
Christian passed his GS. went back on foot. passed my GS.

hence why I'm walking _behind_ my bike !
kaputt, shlass, destroyed, "vidé". was exhausted. really.

then we had to cross the river bed (no water at all this time, Aurel)

sandy riverbed. hard to find the track in there. only following our GPSs.

a little pause under the shade of a little tree while Christian was scouting around.

guess what happens when an exhausted guy is not able to make a slight turn. He tried to go thru the vegetation.
I was laughing like an idiot I was here !

Anton saw it. no comment. all biz.

then we arrived at last at our little "hotel", the one Aurel discovered last year.
And while we were 500 meters from the place, all of a sudden, this :

unbelievable ! hard to see the bike just in front of you.
nearly dark !
Christian and me had a GPS. Not Anton. so we "chapenroned" him.

we just arrived in a nearly complete dark in the place and parked the bike and rushed inside.
"Fanta" for everyone. no beer here. which is normal.

and guess who arrived some 30 minutes after us, meaning that they were caught by the sandstorm really bad:

Jorgen's Gang !

We spent an interesting evening talking and drinking coke and fanta. Taking silly pictures...

Jorgen and Christian went on a difficult discussion. Christian said that Germany was a bigger country than France. The size I mean.
Jurgen sustained the opposite. A box of wine bottles was the reward for the winner.
Back in France, Christian checked about it. he talked to Jorgen. Jorgen won !
Christian, you owe him a box of wine bottles now !!!
