Great writeup so far. Very excited to see how this turns out and if I want to attempt something like that myself.

Thanks. I agree the purple, yellow and white combo reaches an astounding level of ugliness. It's hard to go wrong with black and silver, but we'll see.

another option for bolt extraction , weld a nut on the busted bolt , then soak the crap out of it with some PB Blaster , it should then break free , too late for that now huh

Nice bike! I have the same one but still in purple/white/yellow!

What about a screen from "Screens For Bikes" here in Oz? I am going to get one shortly.

I have a Screens for Bikes Screen. Great for the highway, but gets too close to the face when I'm standing on the pegs during hillclimbs. So now I run a KLR650 screen on the headlight shroud.

BTW, the GPS display on your K12 is insane.

Those colors, especially with the zig zig DR decals remind me of a Japanese monster comics or Tranformers. Always makes me wonder what they were thinking when they designed that model.

That's is one of the better looking 3rd party screens I've seen for the DR650, but I'm hoping to get this screen

to work with these lights

I am. Are there forum rules against listing prices from external sites? If not, I'll list the prices with a running total.

Hi Rick, I have a Moose top end gasket kit with metal base gasket. My head should get back tomorrow, so yes! I'll be jumping on that shortly. How goes my shock rebuild?

I hope I don't have that problem with the Dakar screen.

It's hard to tell which shock is which in the box but they are all prepped and on the way to the metal finishing company.

Plenty of light in the garage, but the camera flash sucks.

There's another thread for screens on DR's elseware, with better photos. Just use the 3 original mounting holes for the KLR screen--which was around $60 IIRC. Your bike is the same year as mine, so it should work.

DON'T DO IT!!!

some things defy common cost analysis, still others are better just "estimated" at the end.
