Cool video of interview with Cyril Despres (if the name doesn't sound familiar, shame on you! He's one of the best Dakar riders ever with ginormous balls that allows him to skim that KTM, soon suspected to be HONDA, across the sand at insane speeds!)

Clich on link and watch bad ass video!: http://www.motorcycle.com/events/ten-questions-with-fivetime-dakar-champ-cyril-despres-91550.html
A local COG member (and I) looked, and sat on the new GS out at the IndyGP race a number of years ago. It felt nice, but with more disposable income than I, he bought one. Have no idea how many miles he has on it now, but, to my knowledge, it only $hit on him once when it failed to start during one of our Brrr Rides a few years ago. Think Morton's tracked down the problem.

Nice bike, but I will stick with my ancient Concours and KLR. They get me everywhere I need to go (including cross country many times), and, knock-on-wood, they haven't let me down yet.

Super last minute plans!

I need a short vacation; Current plan is to leave around lunch time or earlier tomorrow and head to Pocahontas State Park and camp the night, hike for a bit before setting up camp and then relax and explore Saturday heading back that night.
I'm not taking a ton of gear, no cooking supplies just simple food.
If anyone wants to come along, feel free to PM me.
I'll check messages before i leave, I'm covering camp fees since I'm going regardless.
At the moment i have a killer headache so hopefully it'll go away by tomorrow.

I wonder if Bear Creek (Eddy they have cabins) is open yet. But doesn't one have to reserve online for the State Parks.

I'd like to ride, but I'd rather not do so by braile. Scary enough just driving to and from work in the car.

Breaking my rule

about never posting after midnight. But this is cool. It has nothing to do with riding, but most of us like great rock, and I love great guitar playing. In particular, SRV and Jimmy Hendrix. So imagine my surprise at finding this video of a young Korean girl rocking out "Voodoo Chile" and a gayageum. It starts out a little slow, but DAYUM, she gets it rocking.

I'd be really impressed if she could play it behind her head......

Voodoo Chile by Korean girl

Now we return you to your regular programming.

The reason why i was thinking Pocahontas was because; its close and I've never been there.
Looking at Bear creek, I'm going to to definitely head out there. BC looks a lot more interesting.
If the park has a sites available you can usually either just show up (slightly risky) or call ahead so they know to expect you, just make sure to arrive before check in time.

weather forecast is looking good. Don't know what conditions we'll find on some of the gravel, should have local intel next week.

Next ride will be in May, another stab at the Blue Ridge Trail...Front Royal to Mt. Rogers. That ride is not big bike friendly.

PM if interested.

Dave
the Blue Ridge Trail ride dates...May 17, 18, 19. probably head northwest on Thursday after work and camp up near Fort Valley, then start south Friday morning.
