This thread is just dripping with motorcycley goodness!
I'm on for this W/E.
Two campgrounds near West Augusta are Forest Todd Lake and Forest North River. Both are off 250 a ways. The directions both include a lot of FDR and SR roads.

Will be doing that this w/e for a run over to WV after a b'day party up in MD.

Following Thursday will be headed down to Two Wheels of Suches (old TWO), with a stop at the BRMC along the way to spend the night. Went down to TWO every fall for almost 12 years straight a number of years back, and I'd kinda like to see what the new owner has done with the place.

So many nice roads down to, and around that place and I have probably have been on most of them. Just need to brush away the cob webs and see if I can remember some of them.

More the merrier . Unless its full we should be at north river (38.33940, -79.20725) just north of west Augusta Friday night, then on to LF Saturday. Btw if all goes to plan you should have a fellow tiger rider to hang out with.

Hey dirtmonkey if you can't find your tent in time you can always shack up with scottyp for the night. I hear he is friendly.

Hmm?

Gotta love it. A taco that tastes like KY Jelly.

Seriously tho', RTE for me will come early this week. Need to head to Pierce's BBQ down near Williamsburg tomorrow to pick up a couple of bottles of their BBQ sauce (and to eat a sandwich) for a friend of mine over in Clarksburg, WV..... as a kind gesture for his invitation to spend Sunday night at his place after the funeral/internment of the downed WW II airman in Mannington.

Hoping the wx will cooperate so I can ride.

Yo Dirtmonkey, if that arrangement with Scottyp doesn't work out for some reason and can't find your tent, hit me up, I have a spare one with a air mattress to go with it if ya like

Adventure Summery

Andrew, that was funny. Thanks. Sounds like you guys have a great weekend planned. The bad news is I have to work until Sat so I will miss the adventure. Take lots of video!

Here is the summery of my cross country adventure.

10 Days, 11 States, 5,008 total miles.
Averaged 500 miles a day, 8 hours and 45 min a day of riding.
Best State ... Utah
Worse State .. Kansas
The 1200GS ran great. One oil change in CO. One Karoo3 rear tire.
Bike damage .... one bent skid plate, broken mud guard. One fog light bulb.

The best ride for me so far. No agenda except to meet Jeff and Joe somewhere along the TAT. Other than that all I did was look at a topography map (on my iPad) then head for the tallest mountains. Long distance riding with no agenda has been great for me. Last year was Nova Scotia and I did the same thing.

As far as I am concerned...that is the only way to trip Enjoy and do what makes your heart smile.
Rick .... Try it you will love it. I used FB just to keep in touch with friends and family.

I appreciate that. Im not sure how it happened but I broke a big chunk off the bottom of the guard. The mounts still look good. Im thinking about reshaping what I have left and trying it out but it that doesn't work out I may take you up on that.

Here is a photo of the broken guard. The Karoo3's were about half gone. They actually did very well on and off road, wet and dry pavement. Since I did mostly pavement on this trip and they say its a 70/30 tire I expected it to last longer. Im going back to the K60's. Ohhh. Someone a couple weeks ago showed me a "hot" knife that they use to cut knobby tires. Dirtmonkey .... was that you? Im thinking about cutting some of the center strip on the new K60 for better wet weather traction.
