It looks like someone made a wrong turn onto the AT... I have heard that the hero sections are just gnarly as heck trails that technically do not exist. Where did you pull this pic from. I was expecting it to be on the S500 page, but it it not there. At lest not anymore.

PM me your address, since I am one of those useless Federal Employees that doesn't have to go to work because of the shutdown; I can do it tomorrow afternoon or anytime on Friday. Your choice.

LOL! I work from home, so I'm almost always here. It's 8704 Standish Lane, over near the Willy Bridge. Heck, maybe we can drag a few inmates together for an RTE on Friday and you can join in! Otherwise, whenever ...

Uh, that was your old address. You move out of the house in Ginter and move back?

Is that Dictum Ridge? I was thinking about riding that this weekend on the 1200, not so sure after seeing that.

I don't think you would have a good time on Dictum Ridge with the 1200. It is steep and rocky. That pic looks like it could be from dictum ridge.

I am not so sure. He probably would like it and pick this weekend so it would be nice and slick. Sounds better than dragging a dead bike through the woods. Is It part of an OHV area? Never heard of it. I am going to look that up right now.

It's a national forest ATV trail. See the Nat Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map (map 9): http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5392127.pdf

http://goo.gl/maps/TTA4O

It is pretty steep and rocky, and has at least one water crossing. Not big bike friendly.

That looks like Rocky Run ATV trail off of FR72 Long Run rd. A guy like Andrew could do it but it could take its toll on his bike. AB

Somewhere on this thread there's a picture of a bunch of us at the T.G. with you and Eddy proudly displaying your freshly ripped off skidplates.. So you never put it back?

Better be careful out in rocky single-track BFegypt all alone. Get hurt or break your bike out there by yourself - spot or not, you might end up waiting all day for help.

Lesson learned

I learned something this weekend...You cannot actually ride a GS the way BMW advertises in the "Unstoppable" TV/magazine ads. Doing so will either bend a rim, or as I discovered by doing a little research, it will bend the rear shock bolt, bend the frame, bottom out the suspension terribly or bend the handlebars. And just for the record, it has happended to plenty of sub 200 pound guys!

So, any recommendaitons for local wheel/rims repairs? I bent both sides of my front rim (at the same location on the rim) this weekend. F800GS rims are famous for bending if deflated below street psi recommendations (32). I contacted Woody's Wheel Works in Denver and e-mailed them some pictures. They said that it's right on the border between needed a repair versus a replacement. A repair would be around $125 plus shipping. A new snazzy Excel rim (maybe in gold or silver) with super thick spokes laced up to my stock hub would be $530 ($343 parts, $186 labor). For a extra $99, they will prep the rim to be TUBELESS! Even though it would be awesome to run tubeless and have cool, MUCH stronger rims than the stock junk, $630 is nonetheless is a lot more than $125.

This is the left side of the rim. A very mild bend:

This is the right side of the rim, much worse:

This is what a snazzy Woody's Wheel might look like (Why go with a stock look if you are paying for aftermarket? LOL.")
