Just looked it up on Google maps. I remember them clearing a bit of that land where it borders 288 about 5 years ago. At the time I thought they were going to build something but Google maps shows it as all wooded. Not exactly the largest piece of land. Long and skinny with houses bordering one side.

Sorry to hear about your son, he's missing out on some great riding.

If you can, there is some great riding north-east of Taylor Park. (Or west of Crested Butte)

My son, he was 16 at the time.

Italian Creek rd

Yes I love Taylor Park. That's were we were camping and riding at the time. Moving slow this am but think I'll ride some of the trails north of Crested Butte.

Anybody been by since they became a Triumph a Dealer?

I went out to Ultimate Cycles today to ride a SVF 650 while the Suzuki Demo truck was there. I liked it.

Now I just need to get rid of the 800GS.

I went out there today too. I road the new DL650 and DL1000. I loved the new 1000. Great power. Great brakes. Great Suspension. I am seriously considering that as my next pick up along the WR at some point when they're used versus a 800GS or Tiger. I've been throwing around those bikes or a Super Tenere.

CB Radio

SWR Meter .....
Anyone have an SWR meter and/or know how to use it? I am installing a CB in the GL1800 and I hear if you don't tune the darn thing you can burn it out.

The wife and I have a couple long rides planned this fall. If not for information I hear the truckers can keep you entertained and awake.

It was the last Bling Bling I had planned for the big old six cylinder cruiser.

I don't have one, but I know how to use one. Tuning on your GL will be a bit difficult. You'll want to tune as the bike will be loaded. (E.G., with rider and passenger on board). As you're close enough to the antenna to affect the system.

If your CB has an SWR meter on it, you could use that, keying up for a few seconds at a time after adjustments are made. Otherwise, turn your RF gain about mid to 3/4 and tune for maximum noise. Anything below 2:1 on the GL should be 'good enough'. Just realize that any antenna that you put on there that is not a 1/4 wave whip is a compromise. If you had a better ground plane (the wavelength of CB is about 11 meters, so you would need about 2 meters worth of metal radiating out from the base of your antenna) and a 1/4 wave antenna, you could expect better performance.

I'm no CB'er, but I am a ham and have had some schooling on radio and RF.

CB Radio

Thanks
Its a BikeMP3 Evolution CB Radio made specifically for the GL1800. I think most GL1800's have handlebar CB controls so its all integrated. It also includes an antenna. Since its a modular unit, hidden in the trunk, there is no SWR meter built into it.

Im reading as much as I can regarding the install and tuning so I appreciate the input.

Chuck, you should consider getting your Ham ticket. It'd be a snap for you and the conversations while mobile anywhere you go would be ....er.... um...... much better quality.....

I am a certified geek also.

More CO pics of one of my favorite rides, going right around Crested Butte to 400, Rode almost to Aspen then Taylor.

Helped get a drowned Honda going with a new spark plug. Half the insulator was gone. Lucky fit.

For some reason Star Pass stays in my thoughts more than others. This view especially.
