Harbor Freight

I have a coupon for a motorcycle stand/wheel chock at Harbor Freight for $39.99, it is usually $90. I can buy up to four with this coupon. They are very similar (although not quite as beefy) to the Condor brand stands that cost $230. It's useful to trailer a bike in a truck with less stress and to save space in the garage by keeping bikes upright that do not have a center stand. Let me know. I'm going after work today.

That's the beauty of owning a welding machine. One can make all kinds of good stuff like this and have fun doing it.

I'm not so sure that you could buy the metal, hinges, spend the time making it, powdercoat or paint it and still spend only $40 (or have it be worth your time).

But you are right, slapping down two $20's is not as much fun as making it and having the satisfaction of saying "I made that!".

I always try to make something before buying one especially since I have 30 years worth of hardware, iron and aluminum from past projects, a ton of free stuff (ya never know when yer gonna need it kind of stuff), etc. My Grandfather had a Lathe in his basement in MA ( I have it now here in VA) and he wasn't cheap or anything but if a pneumatic door closer on the storm door was broken he would machine new parts rather than buying them. If a carb for the lawnmower needed something he made it. There does come a time when the effort of making something isn't really worth the time for sure...

BUT.........

The satisfaction of saying, "I did/made that" also has value.

I've designed/built so many things over the years but never got to see the end result. My field service career that took me to the customer's site for installation and start-up was a blessing. There is something to be said for the satisfaction you get when you flip on that breaker and all the $hit works like it's supposed to - and - the customer is as happy as a fly in poo.

Personally, I'd rather spend x number of hours at some labor rate to create a piece I could buy at a fraction of that "cost." I'ts just me.

Just made it back from Chicago. My 4:25 flight didn't leave O'hare until 7pm. I wasn't much impressed with my experience of any of the trip. Ok, I'll grant the deep dish pizza was good.

Would of like to have had some burgers with Jimmy and folks but that was not in the cards. Not really riding this weekend. Sunday will be the 1st anniversary and I have been gone half the week, so I'll spend time with the wife.

OK, so like, how's everybody doing? i admit to not stopping in very often. Hope everyone is doing well.

Changed the tires on my Concours today, and the big tiger tooth on the beach was seating the bead on the front tire. Just couldn't get it done with the home compressor. Tried strapping it, and even pumping it full of propane and lighting it off. No bead seating sweetness.

I settled on stuffing a tube in it. Lousy solution, but it balanced.

See you guys at Poe's.

I've never been before. Since I have tomorrow off, I may run down for awhile. What time does it get going good?
