need to catch up on reading this site

book ordered, will post gas money after I search this thread to get your paypal account correct.

This thread puts the little bit of 'The Long Way Round' that I tolerated to shame.

You are truly an Adventure Rider.......

Safe travels!

I just spent an hour on the phone with The Man and he's doing great! (Except for the big rats that were crawling on his bike as we talked.)

Many thanks to all who've posted his pics on their own sites to ease his bandwidth burden.

I set him up with a smugmug account so he should be set in the future when he/we/somebody gets a chance to transfer his photos over.

If there's anyone who could volunteer some time to select maybe 100 of his best photos from this thread and mark them with location data from Google maps (I can explain how this is done), we have in mind a promotion that should get him more exposure. Just send me a PM if you have the time and inclination.

Thanks!
Baldy

Baldy, yer da MAN!

I'll take a stab at the photo thing, I know how to get google map URLs... If there's multiple volunteers (DUH!), lets break the route up into pieces and each do a segment. I'll take the first leg, Japan -> middle of Siberia... next volunteer takes Siberia -> yurp, then egypt -> israel/palestine, then pakistan -> , etc etc ? sound good?

I'm already on the location thing. I've been working with Glen, getting GPS coordinates from him. I am preparing a map of the entire journey, large wall poster size, which will include inset maps with some choice photos of those areas. Of course, any help distilling down the collection would be great.

Oh my gosh, that sounds GREAT!!

Glen said on the phone that you'd been a friend. Send me a PM with a phone number if you can and I'll give you a call.

Thanks!

When the next book comes out, I think this should be the top of the cover...

That's awesome. I have his login for his photo stash, which is here:

http://www.strikingviking.net/sv/ind...viewallfolders

I haven't figured out how to get the photos out. Strange setup...when you right-click the photo you get some php URL for the photo that looks like it's right-click protection or something. Maybe Pierce has some insight?

Glen has them on his laptop in pretty good resolution, so I can have him mail me the whole CD, but there be thousands upon thousands. His photostash has them in enough resolution for display and it's sorted down to the best.

Thanks,
Baldy

I just played with it in Firefox... Right click on the image, 'View Image', THEN Right Click, Save Image as... and it volunteered a decent filename. backspace or click on the back button to return to the photo display page, and again to get back to the top index.

me thinks you should PM Baldy, and get the keys to the smugmug account he setup, and setup folders and stuff there and post away... If you don't already know this, Baldy is the CEO of smugmug.com...
