good job finding a rear rim..those are rare as hen's teeth. I was glad when I found one in Germany paid a fair price for it too.
thanks ... was really happy to find that rear wheel!!!
wanted a backup rear wheel, just in case I'll needed far from home.
almost no wear on drum surface of new rear wheel vs wheel on G/S is getting thin
also got a spare transmission for same reason...

thinking of slapping new wheels on and see what happens. but was sure hoping someone else has done this before me....

Due to a disagreement with my employer about what they want to pay me, I'm hittin the road. I'll be back to the states within a month... for good this time! Now I'll have plenty of time to finish this thing up and put some miles on it while there's still some sun left. Once the rain comes I guess I'll start looking for a job.

Well, that makes one of us. I actually am pretty happy about it. I've been on the fence about quitting for a year or so, but this way I get a severance package and moving expenses get covered.

Back to Seattle for now, and then where ever work takes me after that.

Seattle?

I have a good friend in the Seattle area named Gary Waugh, he's a motorcycle loving ex Brit transplant living in the states with his wife and 2 young girls, they all ride. Gary and his wife did the western half of the TAT just last year on a pair of Honda CRF's. He's a great long distance dirt rider and an allround nice guy. And having just moved to Seattle a couple years ago, I know he'd be happy to meet a few more riders in his area. I'll call him this week and see if I can link you guys together.

And in the mean time, I really need to get my BMW dirt bike project off the ground, she sits waiting silently in the garage. I'm finishing building my home made 3x4 foot blasting cabinet today in my new shop. SO much to do on a daily basis, hard to come home and work on my own bikes.

And the work goes on....

Later Travis

Doesn't it rain continually in Seattle? Guess you'll be looking for work immediately.

It does rain a lot here, but mostly in winter, and spring. July to Oct. is pretty dry. Have not had a drop in 60 days! Fingers crossed

Yep. It's currently tied up in Mexican courts because my state refuses to recognize another state's ownership documents. Stupid stuff really, but while it's tied up it can't be sold or exported (at least not on the books), so I'll probably have to do a kamikaze run to the border on it and slip out. Once back in the US, I'll just claim a lost title as it was originally a US market bike and has the proper VIN format. It hasn't been registered in the US in about 12 years so I seriously doubt anyone will come forward and claim it. If someone does try to claim it I'll tear it down and hand them a bare frame.

I lied my way through both Mexican borders and crossed the country with no visa, insurance or entry documents. When I got to the northern check point, about 50 miles below the real border, I told them I came from the north, forgot the paperwork and that I was doing a U-Turn to head back up and get it. They waved me right through after the search.

I'd rethink this. Do you want to leave it with Brad? Surely you don't hate the bike *that* much.

Back in Seattle now. Changed out the fork seals, bushings, and oil trying to hunt for my stiction problem. The bushings were a bit worn, but not horrible and also showed a few glittery flecks embedded in the coating, but nothing crazy. The fork uppers were perfect inside, with a flawless mirror black anodizing. Unfortunately, not a huge difference before and after, so I need to do a little more digging. I need to check their alignment in the triples as well as at the axle. Other than that, I can't think of much else. Any hints?
