Why's that?
Most shots were done with my 50mm Canon glass. The rest with my Tamron and a couple with my 100-300mm Canon.

Possible Norfolk area relocation...
Greetings everyone!
So, the wife and I are getting tired of the long, dark, cold winters, and are looking to head back to the 'real world'... We had been looking at the Spokane, WA area, but just aren't seeing the job prospects we hoped for. So, we are giving some consideration to the greater Norfolk area and thought I would troll around here for some advice and suggestions. Pros/cons, good/bad/ugly, jobs/housing/traffic, etc... Just anything anyone might care to share. Thread has been subscribed to, and I appreciate the comments!

in contrast to AK, we got 1/64" of snow last night...so they closed the schools.
i think the criteria is something like one snowflake per SF, then it's not safe to run the buses. mild winter here, daffodils popping up already. |

I wouldn't be here if I had a real choice, but I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Good riding is 3-4 hours West. Not much hunting unless you want to join a private club and run deer with dogs. Fishing is great and can be year round. Mild winters, August can be pretty ugly with the heat and humidity. If you have kids, Va. Beach has some pretty decent schools depending on where you live. I'd say housing is on the high side. The economy around here is pretty good considering what is going on in the rest of the country, but that could change if the fiscal cliff is ever dealt with as the military is a huge employer around here. What kind of work are you looking for? |

Don't hunt, but the only thing stopping me from fishing here in Alaska are the 'combat' fishermen... Riding for me has been put on indefinite hold due to an accident a few years back.
Mild winters are exactly what we're looking for. The extreme cold is really starting to bug my injured leg, so a little heat and humidity is what the doctor ordered. Kid is heading off to college this fall, so we are no longer too concerned about local schools, but I have read good things about what is available. Cost of living in Anchorage is really quite high, housing included... I checked the cost of living calculators between Anchorage and Norfolk, and most seem to indicate we could take some cut in pay and still maintain our standard of living. Military is also a big employer here, and I appreciate the insight. Wife is a licensed counselor. I am currently a customer service supervisor at a major telecom company, but looking to step out of the customer service roll...

For a counselor I saw the VA in the Richmond. Roanoke and in WVA somewhere were looking for social worker medical type. This was on USAjobs. if she would take a job with Uncle. WVA and Roanoke are colder in the winter. But not as hot and humid as Tidewater.
