Speedo

That can't be stock. They wouldn't put a 160 MPH speedo on a dirtbike. XRRs only came with a resettable odometer as far as I know (I have 2) and weren't built to be street legal. I believe Australia had a dual sport version with a speedo but that would be in KM/hr.

Not saying the miles aren't actual. I guess the speedo could've been installed when the bike was purchased, it's just not stock. Mileage on a dirt bike is irrelevant IMO. The LIFE of a dirt bike has more to do with how it's treated than how far it's been ridden. An engine rebuild, new wheel bearings, chain, and sprockets, and you're virtually back to zero miles.

I use a Trail Tech Vapor on mine. You can set the miles you THINK the bike has and it also has temp, tach, trip, etc.

Yes, they are the Mondoligths,MM10 LEDs. The don't throw too far down the road, but they do have nice fill. I think they will work perfect for what I need.

My DR650 runs too well so I had to bring this home

yesterday to give me something to fiddle with. It's '99 883 I got for a good price, but it's got a "cough" under steady throttle. Could be varnished up, could need re-jetting ... I dunno until I get into it. It's my fifth bike but my first Harley ... I know, I know, but I've always had the bug for one so I may as well get it out of my system . Can't wait to get some air with it at Dam Neck ...

Mike,
That was me, Dick from Hampton that came by the shop. Enjoyed meeting you and look forward to riding. A very nice and friendly shop too, now I know where to bring my Seadoos in for repair .

Hookay bike experts I need some second opinions ,,,,

I'm theorizing that the Sportster's "cough" is created by a lean condition. It has aftermarket pipes that are free-flowing and louder than I like. Also has an aftermarket high-flow airfilter. I figure the odds are pretty good that the original owner slapped on some loud pipes without bothering to rejet. Less backpressure without rejetting the carb could cause a lean condition, no?
I'm thinking I should put a set of factory pipes back on it to restore backpressure (as well as quieting it down) before I start tearing the carb apart ... make sense?

Thanks.

Makes sense to me Weldman, and you could probably do a quick swap with someone with the stock pipes. Good luck.
