I'm thinking I should put a set of factory pipes back on it to restore backpressure (as well as quieting it down) before I start tearing the carb apart ... make sense?

Thanks.
Wouldn't the jets be cheaper? Have you already cleaned the carb? If not, I'd clean it, see what jets are in it and maybe shim the needle. You can do that for free.

Yes you're right of course ...

but when I got to thinking about it the bike is really louder than I want it to be. So I'm gonna either baffle them or go with OEM pipes anyway, and so I thought if I did that maybe it would run better without carb work. If it doesn't at least I'll be setting the carb up for the pipes that I'm gonna run on it, the quieter OEM ones. In the meantime I'm running a tankful of Seafoamed gas through it.

Thanks man.

What's it doing? Have you got the XR starting routine down? Pull decomp lever - kick over 5 times - release decomp lever and find TDC - Pull decomp lever and kick just past TDC - release decomp lever - kick away. Sometimes if you don't do it right the first time, she'll be extremely difficult to start. If you haven't already, check out starting routine on one of the XR sites. Good luck.

Oh yeah! Those are nice. I'd add those to my DR if I didn't know I would knock them off right away... My DR is lazy and takes quite a few naps.

Yeah, your DR seems to take a lot of naps.

But as far as the Mondolights 10MM's go. This morning on my way to work, 0445, the lights worked like a charm, didn't light up the night, but was much better than my OEM headlight. I could probably raise them up a bit, but think that might have oncoming traffic flashing me. This morning, not one car flashed their lights at me, and I had them on the whole way pretty much. When I did turn them off and was only running my low beam, it was almost like I didn't even have a light on. Makes me wonder how I've rode this thing for two yrs with the sucky OEM headlight.

She thinks she's not a pig and can go anywhere and she can with a nap or two. And thanks again for that kickstand you gave me a while back. That was a looong nap! Got any extra passenger pegs? lol

Yeah I'm afraid I'm not going to make much of a pirate;

I find loud pipes simply annoying. I'm always befuddled by those craigslist ads for Harleys that say "bike is super loud" like its an asset or something ...
