I try to keep my bikes relatively clean. Doesn't mean I don't use them.

USGS Topo maps

I've seen a couple folks mention enjoying using the USGS topo maps. I've poked around their store a bit and man is it tough figuring out which maps cover which areas, and what they would show. Any advice/resources?

I'm trying to get some more dirt in my riding diet, but damn neck is a bit much for the KLR. I know there's some dirt roads to be found out in Pungo, Moyock, Whaleyville, etc. I just can't figure out how to find them.

Have they really managed to pave every road within 2 hrs ride of Norfolk, or am I just reading the wrong maps? Would the USGS maps or any other map show stuff closer to home that's unpaved?

Rainy Monday Funday

So I wasn't going to let a little rain ruin my day of exploration. . . I am not saying this area didn't have a gate but no damage was done. City of NN dumps a lot of trash back there

Found the Trail

About 400 Yards in

Onward!!

Follow the Powerlines

Dock and boat ramp . . . Sure

Great Monday, now time for more Google Earth and Bing Maps !!

Ride on!!

As do I, and I can say with 100% certainty that he pays 0 taxes on that property.

The one area is an active construction site, and State Police will be called if you're caught trespassing. So... just don't get caught... or ID'd. :P

All I did or didn't see we're Newport News public works signs. And a lot of trash. My paint job helps me blend into the surroundings. Plus most the cops in the state are looking for a xt225 jumping logs and ripping donuts. Lol

Rider down

Gents,
I passed a motorcycle accident this morning at about 0900 near the intersection of Indian River and Kempsville Road. Based on the yellow police tape blocking all 3 eastbound lanes, the forensics truck, and the army of police officers crawling over the wreckage, I am guessing it was fatal for the rider. I hope I'm wrong. A blue sport bike was totaled, and a mid-size SUV (Jimmy or Blazer size) had major damage to the right rear side. I truly hope it was none of the inmates on this thread.

Keep your head on a swivel, boys.
Lance

Down the center? Yikes!

Based on the photo on WAVY it looked like the classic car turning left into bikers path, biker tbones car.

Very sad.

Yep. Left-turn into path of the bike

same as got me on my KLR, except that mine was at low speed on Granby.
Happens many times a day all over the country. It's a dangerous lotto out there for those of us riding on the street, and you never know when your number is gonna come up. Get your will straight, and I mean today.

I feel for the family of that guy. He's here one minute and gone the next.
