Who is this Anton? Is he a final drive specialist? Does he know something that no one else seems to know?

I don't think I'll be springing for a spare FD to rebuild. It is a good idea, but, I don't have that kind of cash laying around. My new rebuild is warranted for two years. That won't do much good if it shits the bed in Goose Bay, But, such are the chances we take. But, if it does fail again, I'll be visiting Anton.

Might consider buying a used FD, sending it to Anton for a rebuild then swapping it for the one on your bike. Use your current one as a spare.

There is no BMW dealership in Goose Bay.
What time of year did you go? You were probably pretty lucky to have seen the Northern Lights. I'm planning on leaving in the last week in June. We're planning on riding the eastern side of Newfoundland, were we're hoping to see some icebergs. Seeing some icebergs would be cool, but seeing the Northern Lights would be incredible.

With his track record...he seems to know more about BMW mechanics than BMW does.

Here is our ride report. If I remember correctly we left in the middle of June. We didn't see any icebergs and yes we were really lucky to see the lights. It took us a while to even figure out that was what we were seeing.

Don't blame you for not wanting to lay out the cash for a final drive. Chances are you will be fine.

but....when I bought my spare, I really scored a deal on it off ebay. It was good peace of mind. When the last 11xx BMW left my garage I sold it for at least as much as I had into it.

Have been looking for another road bike as well.
Bikes Unlimited in Williamsburg always has some good options for road bikes and projects. Great group of guys to ride with too (mountains/road). We do group road rides several days during the week with the Saturday AM ride being the friendliest. Plenty of laughs and some serious riding. I've gotten sucked in over the past 5 or so years and I think I spend more on parts and maintenence on the bicycle than on the motorcycles. In fact, the Di2 equipped carbon fiber loaner bike that I rode to work yesterday is worth about 3x more than the SV I rode to work today

So far I think Daang and I are fully committed. Since we're only a month away, I wanted to go ahead and lock down a cabin if we get enough people. I was thinking about staying in Pineville, giving us access to Indian Ridge, pinnacle creek, and Pocahontas. Trails Lodging seems to have pretty reasonable rates. Anyway, if I can get some firm commitments this week, I'll go ahead and place the deposit on an appropriately sized cabin. Those 3 trail systems total over 200 miles, plus the other systems are within striking distance from there. there should be enough variety for all types of bikes and skill levels. Who's in?

I'm only bringing one bike, so there's room in my truck for another as well if you don't feel like riding all the way there.
Just a bump. I'm making cabin deposits in the morning. Anyone else in?

Worked 14 hours to get this unit back online, and bikes are 1000 miles away........

Does that count?
