Thanks for the update, Mike!

Hopefully he keeps improving quickly!

Tube Question

I bought some Shinko 705s to run on the XR250L on the street. Bought new Maxis Heavy Duty Tubes. They have not for highway use printed on them. Not on the box. What's the deal. Are they OK to use? I assume they do this because they are thicker an hold more heat. I have not had a motorcycle with tube tire since '85.

I am pretty sure that you will be just fine running those tubes. I ride the 450 on street all the time and I run UHD.

Main issue with the HD and UHD tubes on the street is heat build up. Your XR is pretty light and does not make a tremendous amount of power so you will be good to go.

For reference. I have ran HD tubes in the Super Enduro for over 15k miles. It weighs 450lbs and makes over 100hp and have not had a failure yet.....

I figured it would be fine but was startled when I opened the box. Maybe if I had a 990. I put holes in the existing tubes when switching from the T-63 tires. Good tired but I want to save them.

Tube tires would be easier to change if not for the holes I made.

I've never had a problem. I run UHD tubes at speeds well in excess of the legal speed limits both on and off road, at pressures that are well below the recommended levels. I've never had an issue. If you're worried in the slightest, run your pressures up a bit. The friction/heat created by the heavier tubes hurts the tires more than the tubes as I understand it.

The family would like visitors to hold off until he is fully awake. He is sleeping and breathing well. The neck brace was taken off this morning. His left knee was cut open but nothing broken there. Three staples holding it shut. The right knee is bruised. He broke three ribs on one side and two on the other. He got a concussion from hitting the ground.

I saw some pictures. His helmet has scrapes on the left side. They cut his jacket and pants off. He was on the DR. The left handlebar and bark buster was bent. The hinge on the left top load pelican case was scraped just about off. Other than that maybe the left mirror is scraped.

I had to go back and find out about this. Shannon was one of the first guys I met from this board and is a FANTASTIC human being. Let me borrow his DR for the weekend to let me know how I liked it, and if I wanted to get into the whole dual-sport thing. Not many people would do that.

My brain is starting to think of some way BKS can send money his way to help out.

Hit the track today for the first time ever on 2 wheels. Pretty freaking cool. Sarah and I did the "try the track" at NCbike. It was totally free and we were escorted around the track for 6 laps with an instructor. Didnt get to go nearly as fast a we wanted BUT... they got us hooked and we're headed back tomorrow for the full shabang. Should be a great day. Ill film the whole thing.

Some of you should go out there. Its in Garysburg NC about 1.5 hours from VB. The try the track is at noon for new riders.

Very cool, I've always wanted to do a track day, sounds like a fun way to try it out.

Did you have to do anything to your bike? Tape up headlights or anything?

Looks like their season is over this weekend...that's a shame, you'd think being in NC they could run longer..I guess it's the season.

Partial solar eclipse tomorrow right at sunrise. Should be pretty cool rising over the ocean.

Get up and go check it out.

If the kids actually wake up, I will be there.

For try the track you don't have to do anything. Today we have to tape headlights but I'm not sure about the rest. Bringing all the tools just in case.

+ Tires and hay bales hurt way less than trees or guard rails.

From my Facebook page:

-----

Shifting gears away from working on our most recent shoot, and towards helping a friend in need.

My good personal friend, Shannon Nix, had an accident on his motorbike involving a deer on October 29th. It's left him in the hospital with several injuries. Shannon is a great guy, always has a smile on his face, and will give you the shirt off his back without hesitating one bit.

The studio has several copies available of the prints shown below, ready for immediate sale. Each print is 8x10, matted in a white 11x14 beveled mat, signed by me. They include various scenes from the Yorktown area, where Shannon lives now. ...

I'm selling these at $25 a piece, with 100% of the sales money going directly towards Shannon and his family to help out with whatever they need help with. He's got a long recovery ahead of him, and it's the least I can do for a personal friend who needs to get back on his feet.

As always, you can Paypal us directly at BlakKrauStudios@gmail.com. If you wish to pay by cash, check, or credit card, please e-mail us at the same address to work out the details. Shipping, if needed, WILL be included in the $25 price!

I only have a handful of these prints available, so if you'd really like one, and would like to help out the Nix family, contact me ASAP to reserve one.

Thanks for reading, and even if you don't purchase a photo, please send prayers and good thoughts Shannon's way.

Thank you.

Michael A. Goodliff
Blak Krau Studios

To whoever is local, I can deliver the photos to you, to keep from having to mail them. Or you can come pick them up, if you're in the Newport News/Oyster Point area.

I figure it's the least I can do for Shannon and his family. I'll also be throwing a bit towards the gift card fund so they'll have a little more up front, so they're not waiting on these photo sales.
