XR650L thread

You need to check out the XR650L thread on here if you haven't yet. There is a cool cast of characters there with an immense volume of knowledge. Take a look at Dave's mods on there or on TT. It's a series of carb mods that gives you snappier throttle response along with some richer jetting. The stock setup is on the lean side.

A big thank you to Xyloworx, the bike wouldn't be road ready if it wasn't for your help.

I saw a ton of classic cars out on the roads today. There must have been some show that I was unaware of.

Thanks for the heads up. I opted out of Dave's mods for now and going with a good old jet kit.. I'll see how that treats me first.

I had a fun day riding with Tom (Motorrcycleguy2004) and his daughter helping out with the MS150 Bike ride on the Eastern Shore.

We rode back and forth throughout the route sections to provide support and help out with mishaps, or call for a truck to pick someone up or provide mechanical help.

Tom and his daughter are staying up there and riding the same route in reverse tomorrow, good on 'em, but I was only up there for the day today.

I did a little over 300 miles round trip, but the 10 hours of saddle time was the hardest. At least I wasn't peddling, I'd rather ride 230 miles than pedal 75!

The weather was beautiful, perfect for cycling of both types.

Beautiful day! I'll bet that wind was a real bitch for the cyclists though. I did a nice loop down 17 to Edenton, hitting side roads along the way, then back up 32 and Daniels Rd, Desert Road, and White Marsh Road past the Dismal Swamp into Suffolk... my favorite local ride.
This is a little bridge on Desert road where I stopped to look at the turtles for a while. There were bunches of them sunning themselves on logs. Neat place.

Steve, great to see you and ride with you supporting the MS150! Fantastic weather again today and less wind, which everyone seemed to prefer. The cyclists really appreciate the support!

Total of about 430 miles for us over both days and another 7+ hours in the saddle today. Good stuff.

- Tom

3-day tour

Just home from a 3-day tour down OBX, camped on Portsmouth Island. Took the ferry to Cedar Island and headed up to Croatan Nat'l Forest for some mild trails...Then took the long way home up through Lake Mattamuskeet area...

My favorite pic...

Just looked up Portsmouth Island on Google. It looks... creepy. Are the houses there abandoned? Looks like the pier is washed out too. More pics!!

Love the OBX, great ride. BTW how did you get your bike to Portsmouth Island? I know you can hire a local to take you but I thought they only took hikers and such?
