Why don't you share some of those kitchen passes with Ken and I

Ask for forgiveness, not permission.

I was either going to go up late Saturday night, after the kids' bedtime, or very early Sunday morning.

No shit right! Not so much about getting permission, it's more about not having a million things to do around the house and at work. Being an adult sucks sometimes.

I am visiting the area for a few months and would be interested in tagging along. What kind of ride, timeline? I will be on a DR650 supermoto.

Cheers

Mostly, if not all dirt. Pavement only to connect to more dirt. As far as route or timeline, I have no idea. I'm not really much of a planner in my time off. I do too much of that at work, and when I start "planning" my fun time, then it starts to feel like work. If you're interested, shoot me a PM with your cell. I'll probably have a rough draft of an outline by Thursday or so.

Screw 'em

After breakfast Saturday morning I was asked to lead a casual group of cruiser types thru Isle of Wight / Suffolk for about an hour. Towards the end I chose a 1/2 mile very hard packed gravel cut thru road and you'd have thought I was asking these guys to castrate themselves. It's as if every one of them was having a panic attack.
Nice guys but adventurous ????? NO Bet they don't ask me again.

You would be surprised at how well big twins will do on a gravel road I have done some pretty good creek crossings also but its that sound the stones make on the painted parts that is unnerving at first. That's why you need more than one bike so you can leave that narrow seat light bike with knobbies home when you need to get out to the west coast fast. Hey just to let you guys know I have heard that there is a new fed guy cruising the Nat Forrest roads looking to write up bikes for what ever he can so be sure to have everything in order be cool and maybe he will lighten up. AB:-)

Best way to handle a ticket in the nat forest or on the parkway.....if you get the ticket, go to court. If you appear before a magistrate, ask for a federal judge, a trial. Worse case, you'll have to pay the fine you were looking at anyway. Best case is that a federal judge doesn't want his docket filled with traffic cases, and your ticket gets tossed or reduced. I was given that piece of advice from Judge Poston here in Norfolk.

Nice!

Shen registration opened today. Got mine! Go to the Washington Area Trail Riders (WATR) Facebook page to link to the registration site. Too easy!
