Aprilia build

Hi All , after having a bastard of a year with injuries and work commitments which has kept me off a bike for the better part of the year.
I have been busy doing my homework on what my next Rallye bike is going to be. I have had KTM's for the last few years and I felt like a change so I decided to have a look at the Aprilia RXV range. Now after you finish picking your self up off the floor after laughing so hard you fell off your chairs, If you look at the tech stat’s of the RXV it should make a dam good Desert bike.

Well here goes. Over the coming weeks/months my Brother (MR) and I will be building 2 bikes Mine is the Aprilia (the unknown) and MR's will be a tricked up DRZ 400(proven reliability).

Start point is a Brand new 08 RXV 450...you may wonder why the 450. I plan on using the bike in an OS Rallye and with the FIM the largest twin you can run is 450.

Start point..

Those RXV's are positively gorgeous !

The 450 is considered to be a better engine than the 550 too... according to a few posts I've seen on various forums anyway. Looking forward to following your build progress GT.

Rxv 450 R

Whilst I was OS with work and having access to the web I started ordering parts from all over the place. part of this is a full Dakar designed Rallye kit for the Aprilia.

This kit give the bike 33ltr of fuel 3 ltrt of water , full heads up nav gear and it places the battery (very small)in the Rallye bash plate.

Since you've side stepped the KTM's, mind if I have the drum of Motorex?

mmm, excellent, there'd be lots of interest in this in the racing forum as well, maybe either dupcate the thread there or maybe just a link to this one

Risers

Being on the tall side, I had these rises made in the US by Pete at Enduro Concepts. Great to deal with and a well made product.

As you can see the risers accommodate the Scotts stabilizer..

Rallye Kit

To give you the some info on the rallye kit.

It has 3 Fuel tanks . Front left is 11 ltr and has a fuel pump the front right holds 12 ltr and the rear (under seat) holds an additional 10 ltr with a second fuel pump.
The front tanks are linked and will drain together .

All three tanks are linked but have a system of one way valves so when the front fuel pump is in use the valve in the fuel line to the rear tank stops fuel being pumped into the rear tank and visa versa for the rear pump this is controlled by a fuel pump selector on the dash..

The side covers are replaced with 2 water tanks .

First impression

Well having never even heard an RXV before I bought one I can say that with the Arrows exhaust they sound great.

First ride impressions are very good , love the power. I am going to have to get heavier springs and spend some time tuning the suspension and play with some gearing options to give more top end other than that it feel fantastic..

I am looking forward to seeing how it handles with all the Rallye kit on.

I have weighed the fuel tanks and they come in at 1.9 kg’s each for the front and 1.6 kg's for the rear. The fairing comes in at 1.8 kg. The bash plate is 3.5 kg’s, battery is less than 1 kg. So I am hoping this is going to be light and fast little twin.

Cheers
