Damn. I moved to N Texas from Ohio. I was pretty spoiled with places to ride. Not spoiled by the cold however.

I have emailed the contact for the ok parks department and a contact in the board of tourism and have yet to get a responce. I asked where the federal grant money was being used for orv use. In 2013 the federal highway administration says they gave oklahoma 1.7 million dollars for off highway vehicle trails and riding areas.

There is a list of projects that shows where the money has been used in previous years, there are some familure one's like at the sand dunes, crosstimbers and lake murray. But i don't think the state is doing a good enough job. Lots of hiking and mountain biking trails. nothing much for orv.

Info can be found here:

here is the contact for the grant

This is good, but like you say it would be good to also know what the plans are for the 2013 money. Maybe a follow up email asking for a reply to your first email.
Let us know if you get a response. I am send her an email also asking about the 2013 funds and include a thank you for what what has been done so far.

Very interesting. I was involved in a small group in Ohio (OMTA) that was pretty successful at pushing the politicians into spending OHV money. In Ohio, it was literally just sitting in an account. You need pushy people and people who will work and push to tell them where to actually spend it. I'll gladly help donate time if it means places to ride.

it looks like alot of the money is available for grants to individuals or areas wanting to put up trail systems. there is a grant form. One thing that is funny is on one of the pdf forms they have a map with a bunch of riding areas on it. alot of them are private and not even paid with gov. money. They simply have it on the map to show how many places are here. And to the non orv person it looks like alot of places. The state, city's and counties are citing on thousands of open acres. they should develop them into areas for use.

We (the Tulsa Trail Riders) have received several of these grants. That is how we purchased the land at Scipio. We recently purchased another 400 acres at Scipio. So the money is being used for trails in Oklahoma. Writing these grants is not easy and there is a lot of red tape involved but it can be done if you have people willing to do it.

stillwater extreme enduro! august 24th!

August 24th!

It is that time again, time for the third annual stillwater exteme enduro. We have moved the event outside the confines of an arena this year and this means we have alot more space, alot more spectating space, and alot more time to build the track. This year we will have elevation changes too!

I will post a flier shortly.
