I know my brother (godwinmt) frequently posts in this forum, so I thought I would let everyone know what I just learned. Apparently, he was riding with some friends and a guy pulled out in front of him (must not have been able to see the hi-viz jacket ). He is currently in the hospital with what they believe is a broken lower leg, and will be going into surgery shortly. Nothing too serious, but he won't be on a bike for a while. Too bad too considering he just got his DR650 fixed from laying it down a few weeks ago...

I'm not sure, but I would imagine so. I've only gotten one quick call from my parents between classes. I'll let you know when I find out more.

EDIT: I just found out he is being moved to the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital with a compound fracture in his tibia.

Sorry to learn of this, but glad to hear it is not more serious... Bones will heal, and maybe he will end up with some titanium in him... I have my share, and it's not all bad...

Still sucks though...

He is actually going into surgery in about 10 minutes to get a rod in his bone. He will just match my mom, who has an ankle of metal from a horse accident years ago

Who Me

Well, I'm back to work now. X-Ray showed the bone it growing back together. Doctor told me to put my shoes on and walk to get the foot limbered up. Still swelling some but it gets better everyday.
Doc says I can ride the bike as long as I'm, careful???

Surgery went well! He has a rod from his knee to his ankle, but is missing 5-6 cm of bone where the truck bumper pressed his leg against the bike. He will be going back into surgery in another 6 weeks for a bone graft to take care of that. If all goes well he will be out of the hospital by Saturday.

According to him, he was following a car, with a truck of friends behind him. A truck tried to make a left turn after the car from a side street and jump the curb to park in someone's yard, and insists on not seeing my brother in his new hi-viz jacket (his last one got torn a bit in his previous accident, so Firstgear sent him their newest model free of cost). I guess it just shows how vulnerable we are on a road full of people not paying attention.

All seriousness aside for God's sake be careful out there. Ride like you're the invisible man and no one can see you. Assume everyone is going to pull out in front of you and be prepared for it. Ride within your limits, too--all too often I see folks going way too fast for their ability to bring their steeds to a stop.

As both our compadres will testify it ain't worth getting hurt just because you let your guard down.

Speaking of the other man in the hospital, my brother would like to visit him when he gets up and moving. Does anyone happen to know his room number? Or perhaps his full name so my Malhon can find out?

hey gang...as my brother said, surgery was a success. ive got some nice hardware now :).

the way I remember it all happening is that I turned out of the plant onto O'Brien and was heading south. just south of 2nd street a pickup turned into the side of me. I swerved right but it wasn't enough and the oncoming truck hit ky leg a bit below my knee crushing my leg throwing me off of the bike. as Sam said I was in my Kilimanjaro hi viz jacket with hi viz helmet.

I dont know my room number due to the whole not walking thing, but my full name is Malhon Godwin. does anyone know Jerrys last name here?
