Vintage Moto Video

Converted some old Super 8 home movies to DVDs and cut this portion out. If you go back to the first post in this thread, you will see that the bike matches...

At least I am wearing more gear this time. Must have been a cold day...

Nice video Rob.

I love the rolling hills of the Ithaca area.

This was my 1982 KX 60. I was seven and rode the snot out of that bike. Memories of Russ Darnell Motorcycle School at Saddleback Park, Gorman, California City, and Anza Borrego as a young kid.

Now I have these guys...

Hi Motopumps

Awesome video look like you had alot of fun on that Honda 185 Xl.It sure is a fun little bike.
I still have a Honda 185 Xl just can't seem to part with it . Have had a lot of motorcycles over the years and it's still here. It's on the second overbore , timeing chain and gear .Other than valve adjustments , cables, sprocket, chains it's never gave me any problems.Starts right up everytime and I still get a big every time I ride it .

Thinking of restoring it at some point. Have never done anything but change the oil. That timing chain is probably loose as hell in there, and who knows about the valves. Should probably look after them at some point. The thing sits for a year at a time and still starts in half a dozen kicks and then on one again after some use. Pretty amazing bike.

My story is a little different.

Dad was vehemently opposed to motorcycles due to his own crash and subsequent missing patella. I rode quads and the occasional trike but never a motorcycle. A decade or so later I get a full time career and a couple people at work ride so in 2001 I buy a 1982 Suzuki GS650G. (not my pic but same model and color)

I bought it for $1100 and got my temps. I rode it for a summer on my temps and parked it in my folk’s garage because I didn’t have room in mine. Next April I’m all excited to go get it out and take my test. On the 12th I crash my mountain bike and break my scapula in half(ouch by the way) while going about 10 MPH. I says to myself “Self, if this can happen hitting a sidewalk at 10mph what would happen at 50mph?” Well in August I finally get my arm out of a sling and the bike sits in the folks garage for 3 more years.

It’s now 2005 and gas prices are getting pretty high. Wifey drives the car and I drive the truck to work. I decide to use the “I’ll save money” ploy and see about getting the bike out again. I go to the folks and promptly remember that I never winterized the bike after breaking my shoulder. Now all 4 carbs are no doubt gummed up like crazy. My brother has a buddy that wants a first bike and buys mine for $600 not even running. I start researching and decide on a 2004 Suzuki SV650S and that was the bike that got me hooked.

I traded it in 2 years and 22,000 miles later on a Buell Ulysses and regretted it every day.

I traded the Buell on a Weestrom last year and am much happier.

I still miss the SV once in a while. I never should have sold that bike.

Does this mean that the WeeStrom is the thinking man's bike?
