There are two recalls, one for the rear sprocket bolts that may have been torqued wrong and the other for questionable bolt length on the front brake disc.

Do you have a campaign number for the front brake recall? I haven't gotten the word on that one from BMW.

When did you purchase your GS? I'm trying to determine (based on when I bought mine) if I'm in the risk category. I've yet to receive a notice. But then I purchased in late November.

IIRC, the front brake bolt recall is for F650GS bikes only.

On the note of recalls, you may want to check your upper radiator hose where it connects to the engine. if it looks like your hose is not on properly... it isn't. There is a "service recall notice" which i was told they will not let you know about until you approach them AFTER your hose has come off or leaked fluid all over your engine and pipes (which is what just happened to me).

I've heard lot's of rumbling about the possible issue with that hose, so if it looks bad on yours, take it to your dealer and have them order the replacement 'longer' hose before it pops off when you're in the middle of nowhere.

The fluid seems to have pitted my header pipes so i'm waiting to hear if they are going to replace them.

THANKS BMW!

Mark

If I understand you correctly, the problem is with the hose and not the clamp, correct?
Thanks
Glen

well, they say it's the hose, but that clamp doesn't look like it's cuttin' the mustard either. when i get it back i'm going to keep an eye on it and if it moves i'm gonna add a better hose clamp on it.

I bought my bike in September. Called the dealer yesterday and they have the parts for the sprocket recall. I'm not on the brake rotor recall. Will check the rad hose this weekend. Sounds like a mess if it fails.

Here's the skinny on the sprocket recall:

The original procedure called for the sprocket nuts to be torqued to 25 newton-meters.
this has, apparently (haven't actually heard of any) led to a few cases of one or more of the nuts coming loose.
The new procedure calls for them to be tightened to 10 newton meters, plus 90 degrees.

the recall calls for each nut (one at a time, not all at once) to be loosened, then retightened using the updated procedure.
If any nuts are loose, then prior to retightening the sprocket is to be removed, and all parts inspected for damage, and replaced if necessary.

Got mine done two days ago. This was the procedure, 10+90. Dealer was a bit pissed by not being aware of the recall. I brought my notice in and they hunted it up.

A word of advice: don't assume that your dealer has been alerted by BMW.

I've not seen the bolt nor hose issue. Anyone got more solid info, perhaps a reference number to the bulletin or recall?

You've got it backwards, don't assume your dealer takes the time to read the bulletins BMW sends to ALL dealers.

The notice hit the dealer network website in December.

I go in tuesday for the fix. Dealer had to order the parts, so be sure to call ahead.

The hose thing will be discussed when I go in, thanks.
