OK I used the little heater we use in the kids bathroom to warm up the garage above 40 deg. So I put 2 coats on the frame so far. I will see what else it needs after a while.

Here it is :

Just an update.
Rear suspension link set up arrived as well as the swing arm stickers. Waiting on engine mount bolts and chain slider and guides, plus other small stuff, from the dealer most likley Tuesday or Wed before they come in. I hope to start putting it back together when the OEM stuff arrives. By mid week you should see the rear end installed and the steering stem set installed. If I get the engine cleaned up and the exhaust painted, maybe it will be shoehorned into the frame also.
That XR650L engine sitting on the floor is still tempting to put in but then it would be my play toy and not Carter's I hope to have a complete rolling set up, minus the tank, seat and fenders, done by the end of the month. It will have to wait until I make some more side money for the seat and fenders. If I cannot get the tank color to come back I might try to come up with the money for a new one. I would hate to put all this time into it just to have an ugly tan tank on a white bike and make the whole thing look like shit (kinda like my XR ).

Funny thing is the XR80R tank is the same price as my XR650L tank. Go F&%KIN figure HUH

If the tank doesn't clean up the way you want and you might replace it anyway, have you considered "updating" the body work to the new CRF style?

I'm not sure how the much the frame/body mounts change with the new plastic, but it should be close......just a thought.
If worse comes to worse, I have a MIG welder and I can make metal stick together with it.

Carter wants a bike that looks like my bike (94' XR650L). So when this one came about and I jumped on it. I had thought about the Red plastics since there several ones on Ebay that are being stripped down. I have seen the red tanks for a low as $10. I would have painted the frame silver if i was going that route.
I picked up some power buffing stuff and will try that first other wise Clark sells an aftermarket tank that is cheaper than the OEM ones. It is the exact price as the one for my 650. Talk about a scam.

OK I managed to get 2 other jobs out of the way and the weather was great . I finished up a sub frame mod on a KLX250 and rocker arm nuts on a 69' Chevy P/U. With those out of the way I got some wrench time on the 80. I got the rear suspension and swing arm installed, the steering stem and forks put on, the harness,CDI and coil back in place. Oh yea the rubber bushings for the side panels cleaned and reinstalled.

Well I picked up some more parts from the dealer. I got the chain slider and guides installed the engine mounted in the frame the air box back in the Pegs and kick stand back on and attempted to put the wheels back on. I think it does not have the correct axles for the bike and the wrong axle spacers on the front. The rear axle is too long and the front is too short. They had some cut down pipe for spacers in the front and the nut was just on the axle bolt. The rear axle bolt is too long and had a bunch of washers on the outside of the swingarm. I tried to swap them but then it goes the other way. I guess I need to get the correct axles and spacers before I can go foward. Here is what it looks like after tonight except for the air box I put in later.
Oh yea look at big brother in the back round. It's back!

kudos and such on all the things.. your work on the 80 and getting big brother back. Also, I think Carter will love it that his bike is like his dads. color wise etc.. perhaps you need to get a tank cover for yours that is like his just for that reason.
