You're not working? Me either!

Sometimes a day off work coincides with a friends day off, and of course a ride to someplace ends up becoming a priority Me and a buddy, BA (istbenz), decided to take a quick day trip to see some sites and eat some good food. Here in MS, the weather rarely stays too cold for long and today was no exception. The day started off kinda chilly but ended up into the 70's mid day, clear skies all around We started in Jackson and took the Natchez Trace down to Port Gibson, then headed down 552 from there. 552 is a pretty good road if you've never ridden it before, it has a lot of good curves and a decently paved surface, winding through the woods which lie about 10ft off the road. First stop was at the Windsor ruins, the site of an old plantation which burned down years ago.

It is a pretty awesome site being there in person, columns towering above while you walk in what used to be the basement. It apparently makes a good place to take that 'special' person

What's this?

Hmmm

Yup, balloon!!!

Anyhoo, moving on to the main attraction. We had heard about this great buffet style restaurant in Lorman, MS, so off we went to try it out. Headed the rest of the way down 552 until we hit 61, turn right and there it was.

Pretty good price

Plenty of seats to choose from

Me with my second plate of goodness. They had some of the best fried catfish I've ever had. The rest was pretty good too

Just for reference, heres my stomach before we ate, notice the feet

Now after, notice any feet?

BA using his trusty steed to support him while he enters a food induced coma

From there, we decided to try and see a plantation that remained intact, but they were closed I guess so here's all we saw

I had a rehearsal dinner to get to (not really hungry anymore, but who can refuse free food!) so we headed on back via 18

Until next time

I DID, I DID!!!

We really had a great time and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. If any of you get a chance to make a little trip down to The Old Country Store in Lorman, I highly recommend it. I am not lying when I tell you that the fried chicken was THE BEST I HAVE EVER EATEN- HANDS DOWN.

Every winter i hate you southern folk with the nice winters, as we freeze through -10 to -15 outside.

If i could get paid for reading all these reports all winter long i could take the winters off and join you guys, who knows maybe even contribute a little.

So yeah,, you suck.

Thanks for the R.R. though.

Oh man, I love me a good all you can eat buffet. There's a casino on the coast here in oregon, and friday night is seafood night at their buffet. I'm talking crab legs, shrimp, salmon, plus they've usually got some prime rib. It's an awesome summertime friday evening ride. about 45 minutes of twisted, scenic, highway to get there.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread and start talking about buffets, but you got me a little hungry there.

Say it ain't so, not casinos in Oregon. None when I was in Eugene (early 70's). We need to export some bible belter's to help you get rid of them.

Nice report!! Love the old plantation.

What size is that 'Pillow'? It looks like just the ticket for my new trunk project.

Pelican 1550. Its tough, waterproof, and I'm of the belief that it's bulletproof

Next time try Old Port Gibson road instead of 18 or the trace. Quite a lot of fun. Love to meet up and ride since I live nearby in Brandon
