Greetz, Hans.

I guess the real question is how much does each way and how much horsepower. If its like I imagine and the Tenere is in the 375lb range and only has 55HP, then you might as well get the 990. Either way to consider one of these a 'dirt bike' is a stretch even though I know there are strapping lads that can ride them like one.

The Tenere actually only has about 46bhp, so if HP is all you want... then why aren't you riding a Hayabusa .

The KTM is about 3000 or 50% more to buy new in the UK, is probably still 20-30lbs heavier, and only has about 2/3 the tank range despite a similar size tank.

You pay your money and you take your choice, but they are two very different bikes in more ways than just the power output.

Very correct. However, as soon as you try to fix up the weak suspension of the Tenere the difference in price becomes smaller, maybe a lot smaller.

Noone says you have to change the suspension ;)

I'm sure we've had this discussion in another thread. There's nothing wrong with upgrading the suspension on the Tenere. It will certainly make it better. But to say everyone needs to do it is nonsense.

I'm not saying either the 990ADV or the Tenere is "better" - I'm saying its a ridiculous comparison to make.

Stock suspension on Tenere is weak for any serious use.I owned 950 Se and 690e this year and drive about 10000km,and theres no way to compare suspension :Tenere-KTM.

These are two completely different statements

The second one is true (But you could also say "there's no way to compare price Tenere-KTM", or "There's no way to compare tank range Tenere KTM"). That's exactly what I've been saying.

The first one is utter nonsense, unless you define "serious use" as "racing". There are hundreds of thousands of miles worth of ride reports on here from all over the world from people using stock suspension. I'm sure they'd love to know you don't think they're doing it seriously.

I'm sure all the people who have bought Teneres and are perfectly happy with the stock suspension would all love to be forced to pay an extra few thousand to get suspension that you want, even if they don't want/need it.

If you want a KTM, buy a KTM, and stop whining that the Tenere isn't as 'good' as a bike that costs 50% more.

If you want a Tenere with suspension that is good enough for rally racing, do what I've done and upgrade a Tenere.

Otherwise, buy a Tenere and have fun riding it on the stock suspension, which is what I did for the 25,000 miles before I started upgrading.

You didnt say how much the Tenere weighs; I guess my only point is for the weight the power is insufficient.

On my wish list is a bike, say along the physical size and width of the Tenere that has a V twin in it and only weighs 300lbs wet. That is a reasonable size to handle and with north of 75HP would be sufficient to move it around. Big enough to travel on, light enough to do some trail riding. Not an unreasonable request someone just needs to build it as the ones that come close are either unreliable or compromised in some way.
