Bonjour folks, from JF from Orléans

Spring is around the corner, so I'm lurking again... I still have a few weekends of skiing left, so my attention is still on ski-related forums, but I had a good chat with myself as I sit in the garage looking at my trusty 2002 VFR. After 100,000 km of great sport-touring (Colorado, the BRP a few times, memorable turns on the Dragon) I think it's time to hand her over to a new owner...
Which means I'm in the market for a used, well taken care of and hopefully farkled the right way 640 Adv/690 with a bigger tank/KLR/maybe a DR650/BMW perhaps?... I'd use it on a daily Orléans/Bells Corners 7 a.m. commute, the weekend gravel in Pap-Labelle and 300 km trip on back roads to my chalet in Sutton Qc.
In an ideal world, I'd have two sets of rims: one for commuting/week-long trips on macadam, the other for weekend fun in the dirt.
My Roadcrafter might be mothballed, in favour of a Rev'it Sand 2 kit. And the Sidi B2 power ranger boots will be changed to a pair of Adventure/Discovery...
Keep you eyes open! Thanks

Did you find that big bump in Wilton Road - or is that only when riding east?

Out and about on Sunday. Thought i'd pop into the douche-time centre to see what they had for heavy duty off road chain lube......I too am at a loss as to why this place is still in business. ..I can only chalk it up to an acceptable amount of mindless minions in their mid-life crisis phase blowing the majority of their disposable income on shiny new toys. You know the type....they only ride when its sunny and warm...usally sporting assless chaps ;)
The drible that usually falls out of the sales guys mouth would suggest that I am right for the most past......

ever notice that most everyone working in the motorcycle shop is under 30... usually ? people over 30 is in the admin or sales or some other function of the motorcycle store. So looking at the average tec at 25, he just finished college (hopefully) got a job at the biggest store in the city... how much time actually working on bikes? at ogtc they have kawi, bmw , triumph with piles of models each.. could that 25yr old tec actually know all the models inside and out? not likely..

then we blame the dealer... all dealers (imho) are the same way.. hire young, pay cheap, don't ask for something he should but doesn't understand.
....
This sounds like Gearhead to the T.

Back in 2010 I bought a Moto Guzzi Stevlio in the US because it was $7,000 cheaper all-in (except for maybe the grand I spent having a leisurely ride from Seattle to Ottawa). I took it there for servicing twice and got bad service there before I clued into his reputation in the Ottawa motorcycle community. And his mechanic was this know-nothing pimple-faced kid that spent most of his week working on Piaggio scooters. He knew nothing about Guzzi 1200 cc V-twins, and had never even heard of GuzziTech, THE forum to go to for late model Guzzi tech issues.

It's little wonder he lost all his dealerships. Nobody in the city will deal with him. I think I will go over there today just to mock the bastard.

^^Yep....pretty much the reason I travel 4hrs to go to GP BIkes IF I need dealer help or am buying a bike (my 990). They also service Ohlins suspension IN HOUSE...OGTC says they service them too...but they actually send them out.
When I had to get the seals on the 996 forks re done, they quoted me some outrageous turn around time...like a month or something stupid. And they really couldn't be bothered about some Ducati Douche bag and his fancy Ohlins forks.....

GP bikes had em done in 2 days AND came in under the service quote. Thats Customer Service (Ottawa dealers....THIS MEANS YOU!)

Oh…and my other favourite “stupid Dealer trick” was by Power Sports: When I bought my 2000 Ducati 996SPS from the states I had to get it safetied. I had arranged in advance with Power Sports to do the safty as word on the street was that they were soon to be badged as the New Ducati Shop in town…stupid me for “assuming “ they might be brushing up on Ducati services in the run up…. CT was going to do the safety at the same time as I did the RIV form thing, but since I had the appointment at PS and since I was assuming good service would be had… but I digress.
I brought the bike in and it had to have a couple minor things done to it that I was aware of for the safety and said as much when I brought it in. I also said that if there were any over issues with the safety to let me know what and how much.
So I get a call the next day, all issues I mentioned were fixed but there was this that and another thing that needed to be done for a safety. I was a bit suspect, but all items on their list were super minor and totally doable myself had I known. So I paid for the work already done and took the bike back and completed all items myself. Next day I take it in for a safety….I get a call a few hours later….nope, there’s more to be done….this that and another thing.
Im like wtf? Are you guys serious? Not falling for this shit at all I took my bike back, called the guy at CT I was dealing with and asked if they can fit me in. Bring it by right now. So I did….passed safety no problem. For the record, the guy at CT, at least this one, races bikes in his spare time and they have a tech that volunteers as a mech on a race team up at calabogie. $50 for the safety at CT vs. the $60 or $70 at PS.

If they charged you more than the government set rate for a safety, then report them. It is totally illegal to do so.

My bad. I thought there was a set fee, must have confused it with the e-test.

Len at Richmond Motorsports did one on the spot for me and IIRC charged $50.
