Well done Barry.
My hand is almost fit enough for boot camp so we'll have to get that new 690 out there soon.

Qld has a single seat rego available. Few things to comply, like no pillion pegs. I don't know what else, maybe maximum seat length?

Yup, no pillion pegs, technically you're supposed to drill them out and stuff but I don't think that applies to the 690, where the pillion peg bolts are re-purposed for a plastic guard that keeps your feet away from the swing arm. My 690 came with both pillion pegs and the plastic guards.

You also have to remove whatever grab handles the bike has for the passenger. I put mine on anyway, and I use them all the time riding single track to haul the bike out of the bog/etc. I reckon the authority will be perfectly understanding of that if I ever get inspected.

Most bikes do need to have their seat modified but I don't think that applies to dirt bikes, where the entire seat is used by the rider. It's more for bikes that obviously have a separate seating area for the passenger.

In QLD the vehicle registration fee is the same whether you're single seat or double seat. But Compulsory Third Party injury insurance drops to almost nothing without a passenger, because CTP only covers third party injuries (so it covers the passenger, but doesn't cover the rider). With no passenger, you can only injure a "third party" if you crash into someone else.

As far as I know, it's easy to set which registration is used when the dealer first does the bike rego, but a pain in the ass to change it later.

It's not too hard, you just have to go to a roadworthy place that can do single seat compliance and they'll fill out the paper work and plate it. Then you go to motor reg, they eyeball the plate and change it over.
