I have been looking at Wr250r, DR650, or a klx250s.
If the trails arent that difficult id consider a V strom 1000.
Thanks
Dan
I recommend 2 bikes. One for commuting and one for the dirt. If you get a big thumper for commuting, KLR DR, or GS, you can use it for recon to find trails you may want to take the dirt bike.

No law in Tucson against owning 2 or more bikes.

I have a DR350SE and it's about perfect. If I had to do it again, I might get a DR-Z400S to get a little bit better blacktop ability, but for sure you want something better in the dirt than the street since there are about 10x more dirt roads than paved roads in the area.

Some really good roads you have to get to from blacktop, so maybe 2 bikes are in order like some have said. If I was doing that, I'd get a really good street legal dirt bike like the WR250R or KTM, then something like a DR650.

From what I've seen, the roads where you'd want to ride a big adventure bike are not nearly as interesting as the more hardcore stuff.

(Arizona has lax rules, so you can make most any 4 stroke dirt bike street legal.)

Next IH date is April 21. I put a few rides and a school together last year with Evan - we even got Aaron Yates to guest instruct, but I have been riding off road so much, I let my private invitation days fall off. I will probably do some summer rides, 6 am to as long as you can take it for cheap - I give the $ to the track, it's more of a give back to the small track community in Tucson and a way to use my membership. Anyway, if you PM me with your email info and any other experienced riders that might be interested, I'll put you on my list. I pretty much can fill a day - limit 20 - with a few phone calls and ESP -Phil is running the shop while Evan and Aaron chase around the SBK euro circuit - has a hand full of riders as well. It is a track bike...not the best for off-roading or dual sport...although if legit easy way to double your money pretty quickly.

I'm starting to really miss my dr350. It's just sitting there, waiting to get the top end put back together.

KLR 250 sure made me a happy DSer last week, though. I set up the GoPro and watched myself ride over some ramps, and to my surprise I was actually getting air! Not a lot, but the suspension was soaking it up so nicely that I couldn't feel it.

Something like the last picture here:

There is some confusion over when. The Tucson Rides thread says Sunday 3/29 but the 29th is Sat. Is it Sat 3/29 or Sun 3/30?
