Hoosier: I am 6' so im not sure how much of issue that would be. Other concern is reliability as an around town commuter bike.
Thanks,
Dan

The suspension is a bit soft up front too, but both those items can be worked on. Engine vibrates a hell of a lot, but I got used to that. Power is awesome (I have a FCR 41 on mine). I sort of liken it to a Honda XR 650R with electric start.

Super reliable (as mine sits at someone's house with an electrical issue). 11000 miles is nothing. If I were you...I would offer the guy $2000 and you would have ONE hell of a deal. They didn't change much at all from 1999 to 2007 when they were replaced by the much better and much more expensive 690. I had a 1998 400 RXC (same engine). Probably one of my favorite bikes of all time (I have had at least 40).

Somehow I missed something, are you shopping for a bike? A 640 with 11k miles? Does it happen to be this one:

OK, 'cause that SMC used to be mine, I was the third owner, picked it up with less then 3k, sold it with just over 5k, I used it pretty exclusively as a track bike for a few years.

In case you were wondering where the "71" came from, the trackday organizer I rode with required numbers, but would only allow a max of 3. Thus, 71 from PhiSig1071

Well, seeing as how you have previous experience with the bike and all, what's your opinion on the $2500 asking price?

Heh, nice rack! I've never seen a rack on a supermoto bike on the track before. You didn't happen to have that at the go kart track in Tucson did you? I used to ride my 998 there a little bit until I hosed it up at Inde with a stuck throttle.

It's absolutely breaks my heart to see that bike selling for that price. I loved that bike, it was amazing. I actually traded that bike to him for a '07 DRZ and cash my way, because I wanted to free up some cash and get into dirtbikes. I wish I could come up with the extra scratch to go buy it, but I have dedicated myself to getting completely out of debt, so pretty much all my extra income is going to that. It's going to take me another 10-12 months, I doubt it'll still be available then.

A little info on the bike for those of you that don't know. The '04 was a 1-year model, the best LC4 SMC (IMO) with none of the 1-year issues. Before '04 the SMC and SXC only had different rims/brakes, that was pretty much it. '04 was the first year of the dedicated SMC, different swingarm, different suspension set up (valving and spring rates IIRC), and a bunch of other factory tweaks that made it a from scratch ground up Supermoto bike. In '05 the SMC got a different subframe and dual exhaust, and dry weight went from 290 ('04) to 321 ('05-up). So it's a one year only bike, but, the mechanical changes they made carried on to the post '04 bikes (so parts were easily available) and the bodywork/subframe/exhaust was the same with prior model years of the SXC/SMC and following years of the SXC and some 640Adv parts would fit too. So it's the most purpose built and lightest of the LC4 SMC's. It absolutely rips, I hit 125mph indicated on the back straight at my local bike track. (Jennings GP in FL).

Nope, I rode her a ton at my local track in Florida (Jennings GP, that's where all those pictures are taken) and a couple times at Barber, but when I got her out here I never got a chance to ride her at Inde or P1/Musselmann before I sold her. I actually pulled and sold that rack shortly after that pic was taken, I had no use for it, that bike very rarely ever saw the street. I also sold the KTM comfort seat that it came with. I didn't want anything that didn't make it faster or lighter.

I really miss that bike.
